Home Fires - what happened at the end?

Whose house did the plane crash into? It clipped the chimney of the house where the baby was being born, but then you could hear the baby crying when everyone was standing looking at the plane. Confused!

As mentioned above, there is this...www.change.org/p/itv-itv-must-recommission-homefires Don't think my phone will do a clickable link.

BringMeTea · 15/05/2016 07:42

We NEED a clickable link! How very annoying of ITV. I loved it. So evocative. Sad

Greydog · 15/05/2016 14:42

The petition's doing really well at the moment, but really need more people to keep on signing! People have been E/mailing, but are getting the usual replies -

Thank you for your recent email regarding Home Fires.
I am pleased to read that you enjoyed the programme and sorry that you are disappointed with this decision. Unfortunately the series will not be coming back, an ITV spokesman said: "We are incredibly proud of what Home Fires has achieved, but the ITV commissioning team continues to refresh the channel's drama portfolio, hence the decision not to commission a further new series."

I can confirm that your comments have been logged here at ITV and will be fed back to the relevant teams.
May I take this opportunity to thank you for taking the time to contact us here at ITV Viewer Services.
If I can be of further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us again.
Kind regards,

We need to keep up the pressure, they did a u turn on Foyle's War, due to public opinion, so it can be done!

I can't believe that ITV , or any mainstream channel, feel that they can do this, and feel sorry for the writers, actors and everyone else who have worked so hard on such a moving and entertaining series. So unfair and totally unjustified imo!
( you can tell I have got a wee bee in my bonnet about it) 😉

Drinksforeveryone · 15/05/2016 20:20

I signed the petition.

Just caught up with the last two episodes as had been away on holiday. Am very surprised that they would leave it to hang like that with no conclusion.

I didn't see series 1 - but really enjoyed this series.

Fingers crossed we get some results for another few episodes.

CoolCarrie · 15/05/2016 23:36

You can catch up with series 1 & 2 on YouTube.

ProphetOfDoom · 16/05/2016 00:08

Aww Sad - just right for Sunday night viewing at House of Doom. I signed the petition.

What were its viewing figs like?

Greypuddle · 16/05/2016 06:48

Just over 6m consolidated ie after catch up is taken into account. Undercover has just been recommissioned by the bbc despite losing to Home Fires every week. And it's not about viewing figures. I want to watch women who aren't either policemen's wives or being killed in police programmes. Am annoyed!

BringMeTea · 16/05/2016 07:07

Signed. Grin Thanks for the link Rhubarb.

Rhubarb01 · 16/05/2016 07:12

You've got a good point there greypuddle. Although I've had my little criticisms of the programme (probably because I've got a real interest in that period of history) but I was only thinking myself that it offered something a bit different. There are countless crime series and ITV make quite a few of them. I've got quite fed up of those dramas and don't generally watch. Home Fires, however, did feature some strong roles for women and showed the positive contribution made by them during that era. The only similar show I can think of in the last few years was 'Land Girls' on BBC - but that was daytime, although they got three series and it was popular.

Akire · 16/05/2016 12:01

Signed also ,we can but try.

Signed too

mogloveseggs · 18/05/2016 12:12

Have signed. They can't leave it like that!

paniniswapx3 · 23/05/2016 23:23

Signed.

scarlets · 24/05/2016 16:05

I was disappointed when Bletchley Circle was axed too, and wonder if there was an element of misogyny in both decisions.

paniniswapx3 · 24/05/2016 16:41

It does make you wonder scarlets as both are great series with strong female casts that were cut when still very popular.

Akire · 24/05/2016 16:42

Loved bletchy circle too hope they repeat soon. It's not like BBC /itv don't have enough props in the 1940/50 era!!

Rhubarb01 · 28/03/2017 13:22

For anyone who enjoyed 'Home Fires' and was annoyed at the sudden cancellation of the series on a cliffhanger ending last year you might like to know that the writer of the series, Simon Block, is going to continue the story in novel format initially available as an e-book and then in paperback.

ExcuseMyEyebrows · 28/03/2017 13:28

Thanks Rhubarb, I loved the series and was very sad to learn that it wasn't going to be continued.

mateysmum · 28/03/2017 13:46

Another one here who misses HF. There characters and storylines were just settling down and had so much potential. Why wouldn't ITV recommission? I reckon there's some behind the scenes skulduggery that isn't being revealed or maybe they couldn't get the cast together.

It's bollocks about "refreshing" the drama offering. HF had only been on for 2 series. There's plenty of other crap they could ditch.

lizzieoak · 08/05/2017 03:48

The thing that really pisses me off with these cancellations is that the shows don't end in a sensible way. Indian Summers was the same (yes, it was full of holes, weirdly written, but wonderful acted and I was left hanging).

And I was confused too about the whose house the plane ploughed into. Dr Handsome's, must be, but then why did it look like it clipped the chimney of that house.
