Wow!
His stoves were great though!

Aloha · 11/01/2007 22:47

It didn't include their tax bill and they lived on absolutely NOTHING! How did they manage to live on, I think,£5K? My supermarket shopping must come to at least that! And then there is the mortgage...

thomasina · 11/01/2007 22:48

How did they do it??

nikkie · 11/01/2007 22:58

Main thing was their stoves and having a bloke that nagged everythime they did something that involved spending money or not making money

Pablothelittleredfox · 11/01/2007 23:02

But say their mortgage was £105K - did they actually earn that much in the 2 years? Otherwise, how did they pay it off?

We wouldn't even earn the value of our outstanding mortgage in 2 years (yes, it's huge!!).

Aloha · 11/01/2007 23:04

Yes, they had orders worth about £110K for the stoves, iirc. Mind you, I wonder if he could make that many in the time.

Pablothelittleredfox · 11/01/2007 23:05

Oh right, so like you said they lived on £5K - er, how?!

SueW · 11/01/2007 23:08

I can never do the maths on these programmes. It looks good on the surface but doesn't add up e.g. tax bills.

Like those makeover programmes which do up houses and gardens so cheaply and don't bother to factor in how many hundreds of pounds a day you'll be charged by your builder for a spotty 16yo labourer!

Lucycat · 12/01/2007 10:26

They had the most fantastic lifestyle, iirc, and I'm sure someone will correct me but they were a surfing family, who brought their 2 boys up in a camper van, he made those fantastic stoves, but just 2 a year, enough money to live on and go surfing and she taught yoga....they ate lots of nettle soup and I was soooooo of their whole lifestyle.

They were really uncommercial(?) and I'm really pleased that they managed to make so much money.

oh and they were paying their mortgage off over 35 years.

I'm really pleased that they managed to do it. I think they were my favourite family out of the entire series. They just all seemed so happy together and genuinely nice people.

Looking forward to seeing how the Cliff Richard impersonator did now though!
