Aren't they great? DD and I watched this together and I reminded her that even the one who came last had done well because it was hard even to get on in the first place. You know the sort of thing: "they all did their best!" I watched in great admiration wondering a) if I'd have known all this stuff when I was 11 and b) how many state school contestants they get.

It's a shame they are only allowed to compete with first names - obvious why, but still a sad reflection on our society.

DD wants to go on when she is 11! she would do questions on the Solar System.

JMM and Raven/ Raven the Island - which tests ingenuity and teamwork - are a great counterbalance to all the dumbed-down kids' TV involving people being gunged and asked questions about Justin fecking Timberland.

We watched it, my ds aged 11 was going head to head with the footie boy! The 2006 World Cup one!

There are some general knowledge questions on the BBC website, get your daughter working on it now!
