That's what I'm asking, Hassled, I think? If the Russians (and hence Hair?) knew what the judge's information was five months before Carrie phoned him, why not either off him before he can communicate it to Carrie, or disappear Undead Amsterdam Man before his continued existence can be corroborated by Tragic Cabbie and Carrie? Or, they didn't know, and simply noted his attempt to communicate with Oriole in a document which was, unfortunately, hacked? But if they didn't know themselves what the judge had seen - and doesn't he tell Carrie he's told no one else? - why then was Hair so panicked when that document was hacked? I suppose it's arguable Carrie was no longer CIA, so no longer considered a player...?

I guess it also comes down to what Undead Man's relationship with the Russians was after the Hair sting... Apart from hanging out at Banana Joe's drinking daiquiris.

Missanneshirley · 30/11/2015 23:38

Are we meant to think that Hair's informant went to banana joes alone ? Or has she at some point been there with him?

I thought that During looked very worried over Carrie's shoulder while the hacking was going on - previously I've thought he looked concerned about Carrie - now I'd say he looked worried in baddie about to be caught out way !

GypsyFl0ss · 01/12/2015 05:57

I agree with that second statement . He definitely looks like he's about to be caught out.

Fiderer · 01/12/2015 06:41

Thinking about Düring working for the BND, seeing as the Israelis are heavily involved, maybe part of his atonement for his family's past is working for Mossad. Or maybe he's sick of the on-going guilt & will sell anyone to anyone.

Hair must have been clever over the years at covering her tracks but in Baghdad she was a bit rubbish. No hint of being played by AmsterdamNotDead man. Not recording her meetings with him. Not realising the room had cameras.

Worse, not turning the tables on Ivan & bluffing out the threat. And "I'll never betray my country. Ah, $4 million & a daquiri. OK then." Hmm

AmberFool · 01/12/2015 07:19

Hair must have been clever over the years at covering her tracks but in Baghdad she was a bit rubbish.

She had the Russians managing it all though.

Lweji · 01/12/2015 08:43

It's the hair. Rubbish in Baghdad, bu so mesmerising that men don't notice anything else elsewhere.

Fiderer · 01/12/2015 08:44

She had the Russians managing it all though.

True. I assume there were many meetings in underground car parks between Ivan & Alichka.

Still don't get why they just didn't silence/kill the judge who wanted Carrie and told her about seeing AmsterdamNotDead man v much alive? It was all in the hacked documents about her being a pariah.

Surely easier to fake a break-in gone wrong than set up the bomb attack, then have Carrie killed in Berlin, major CIA station?

ThursdayLastWeek · 01/12/2015 08:51

Amber I think I listened to an episode of This American Life about that man/informant. You're right it wasn't slick at all!

Fiderer · 01/12/2015 09:01

Wonder if Hair was the mole mentioned in s1? We never found out who that was. I remember suspecting Galvez (?) but he got shot when Quinn did at the tailor's.

SiegeofEnnis · 01/12/2015 09:14

And is Etai really helping Saul by warning him Dar Salieri is coming to get him early, or is Saul being dopily trusting to let himself be taken off somewhere? How much goodwill does leaking three names to Mossad thirty years earlier buy you? (Clearly not a lot with Scary Tovah...)

I think what I don't like much about this series is how apparently naïve virtually every previously savvy major character is being - or looks as if they're being, anyway. Saul shagging Evil Double Agent Hair, and apparently naively telling her by telling her about giving the hacked documents to Carrie.

Carrie naively trusting Hair because they had a couple of drinks together in Baghdad in 2005 ('we were close' - really???) and then wibbling, possibly trusting During too readily.

Dar saying 'Oh, hi, Peter' and moving straight to sandwiches and plans to take down major Syrian jihadis, ignoring the fact that Quinn has been AWOL on a secret killing Berlin jihadi killing spree at Saul's behest, and that he's visibly half-dead?

Even Hair trusting Undead Amsterdam Man until Ivan the Terrible showed up - it's not clear to me that she should be trusting Ivan even now. Are we to assume they are in a relationship, with all those pet names and the hand-holding in moments of wibble?

What I keep asking myself is how much does Dar Adal know in all of this? Is his spat with Saul some kind of long game to let Hair ensnare herself? Did he know and approve of Quinn's solo jihadi-killing thing? And had in fact known all along about Saul's fake defection? Is it all a very loooong game? And - crucially - does he think Carrie is dead or not? Did he ever think that?

HoomanBean · 01/12/2015 09:25

Quinn has got a death wish, seriously. How can he still be alive after so much recklessness? And why isn't Carrie even remotely bothered about what has happened to him? Here's Quinn, ready to put his whole life/career at risk and even drown himself for her and she's mentioned him once in conversation since he walked out of the dodgy hideout place, half bleeding to death!

Quinn should LTB. I'm sure he'd find much more devoted lovers on MN

Fiderer · 01/12/2015 09:36

And she went all wobbly teary at the mention of Jonas. Who didn't have the brains to have nothing more to do with her after his son got kidnapped because of her.

Quinn took his unrequited love to Syria and then tried to drown himself to save her.

Redskyatnight01 · 01/12/2015 12:43

I notice that in the changing years and climates Carrie still likes a shite suit. That's why she'll never betray her country as she's happy with a £30 George at asda number and a crossover bag from the 80s.

LOL Grin this was my first thought actually, still wearing those trousers that are too tight across her arse even back then and those wrap around bags, eurgh! She looked much prettier ‘back then’ she should try a bit of mascara and some pearls now Grin

Don’t know what to make of Sunday’s episode….Good that we got the background on ol’ hair etc but the whole Quinn thing is quite frankly, ridiculous. Why did he even volunteer to take them to bloody Syria anyway, it’s so stupid. I love Quinn and want him and ol’ wobbly lip to end up together in the end….but I have a horrible feeling perhaps he’ll cark it?! He should have done a runner whilst they were still all in the house!

I also have a horrible feeling Saul is being lured/ bundled into a trap. They said he had until the morning, Carrie has just cracked the code if you like, it would be all too easy for her just to be able to ring him and inform him of hair’s treacherous ways!

I think During is bad, unfortunately. Can’t figure out how, but could someone REALLY be that nice?! And why was he calling her unstable (even though she is) and lying about speaking to ol’ ginge?! All is not well there either.

And as for hair and Ivan or whatever his name is…it makes it seem like they’re an item?

I think Abraham went off to St Lucia to see what all the fuss was with those cocktails!

:sigh: it’s all so stressful, my nerves are all on edge!

TheOldestCat · 01/12/2015 14:32

I do not trust Otto one little bit. Agree, RedSky - why is he lying?

I fear for Quinn.

And Saul.

bites nails

ILikeToClean · 01/12/2015 20:55

Just caught up and came on here to read what you all think and now I realise all your in depth analysis and musings make me see how unbelievable and gaping the plot is! You're all too good at this...Grin - I can't work out wtf is going on...

deadwitchproject · 02/12/2015 14:52

Finally caught up...everything has already been covered by pp but wanted to add that I really enjoyed the Carrie/Allison back story in Iraq not mentioning the hair

Travelledtheworld · 02/12/2015 23:01

SeigeofEnnis choking with laughter here over your analysis.

Travelledtheworld · 02/12/2015 23:02

ps had a fantastic night in Ennis once while I was waiting for a next day flight to the USA from Shannon.

oneowlgirl · 02/12/2015 23:33

Just been googling - Hair is married to Peter Obrien in real life (Shane Ramsey from Neighbours!!). Didn't realise she was Australian either!

BitOfFun · 03/12/2015 13:01

Oh my goodness- I remember him! He had some distinctly dodgy man-highlights too, iirc.

oneowlgirl · 03/12/2015 14:16

That's him BOF - I luuvvvved him in Neighbours!

Howaboutthisone · 03/12/2015 18:59

Totally agree about how frustrating it is that these super spies suddenly trust everyone that they shouldn't!
