Just seen that the first "celebs" have arrived in Australia. Kieron Dyer and Jorgie Porter apparently. Isn't she the one who was on Celeb First Dates recently?

Series starts a week today!

Sure does Blondes. I was surprised at that one.

Just caught up with the last 2 nights. Lady C is obviously used to being heard loud and clear but they all seem to put up with it and it's comedy gold to watch. I want to see more of some of the others, Kieron will be the one this year that goes early as he's getting no airtime but is probably the loveliest guy, really chilled and just gets on with it. Needs more focus on the others - not just Lady C.

Nobody yet is annoying me too much - Brian is a bit whingy and the new people a bit excitable but I'm not screaming at the tv just yet. Give it time...Grin

SelfLoathing · 20/11/2015 00:32

This is a bit of a random question but does anyone else think that Lady C and Lauren Harries sound very similar? I think they could be voice-a-likes.

I don't get why this should be.

Lady C sounds slightly like a couple of very aristocratic elder caucasian women I have met who grew up in India. I read that she is from Jamaica and I wonder whether there is an accent similarity with caucasian expat British speaking in India and Jamaica in terms of accent.

But Lauren Harries grew up in Surrey - so it makes no sense to me.

I think it's a very striking vocal similarity though.

Sansoora · 20/11/2015 01:06

People aren't used to seeing opinionated, non-people-pleasing women on TV.

Is that what it is?

Right oh

SelfLoathing

Lady Colin Campbell (born 1949 - so 66 years old) was born and bred in Jamaica. She was born a girl, but because of malformation during pre-birth her genitalia were not clearly recognised by the doctors and she was designated to be a boy. She had corrective surgery when she was 21 years old (paid for by her Grandmother).

In 1974 she married Lord Colin Campbell (a younger son of the eleventh Duke of Argyll) within 5 days of meeting. The marriage lasted 9 months and they were divorced within 14 months. However, she retains the title and position of Lord Colin Campbell unless she remarries. She does not have a title in her own right - no more than Kate Middleton would have had without the Queen bestowing KM as The Duchess of Cambridge on the day of her marriage. Kate Middleton would have been known as 'The Princess William of Wales' if she had not have been inaugurated as a Duchess. (We still have Princess Michael of Kent because the Queen did not approve of her cousin's marriage to a divorcee and would not bestow a title on Marie Christine.)

So that should explain why she is still known as Lady COLIN Campbell whilst her own first names are Georgia Arianna.

Because she retained her position within the British aristocracy after her divorce, she mingled with royalty. She became a good friend to The Duchess of Wales and was the first to write an explosive expose on her life with Prince Charles. It wasn't believed until Diana authorised her own biography to be written by Morton. However, there is another book that Lady Colin Campbell wrote - about the Queen Mother. The allegations in that have yet to be proved

I don't like her in I'm A Celebrity as she is portraying the very worst of The Establishment (entitlement). She may make good TV viewing for some but I am in danger of throwing my slipper at the TV whenever she opens her mouth to argue with someone. She's self-opinionated, self-obsessed, un-empathetic and a narcissist. (Mind you, Lady C did write a book about her own mother who she considered to be a 'vilely narcissistic'.)

She was brilliant when she did the bush-tucker eating trial and I truly admired her. But then she wouldn't wash up unless she was told what the prize would be. I understood her not getting into the Panic Pit because that would trigger memories of her cousin being buried alive. But overall, I find her to be a very unpleasant character.

sadwidow28 · 20/11/2015 02:02

Whoops ^^

The Duchess of Wales = The Princess of Wales

SelfLoathing · 20/11/2015 02:06

sadwidow

No idea why you addressed that to me. I know of her history and am fully aware of why she is known as Lady C.

My question was about her accent/voice sound and whether anyone else thought she also sounded like Lauren Harries.

ILikeToClean · 20/11/2015 09:28

SelfLoathing when Tony and Susannah were picking people at the very beginning and you just heard their voices I said to DH that Lady C was Lauren Harries so yes, I agree!

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/11/2015 09:45

i did wonder what Lady C's name was, not sure i would want to be known as colin and if i got divorced i would go back to my maiden name well maybe not as i hated it Grin

agree she leapt in and ate with gusto the cock etc Wink but amazed she didnt wash up/play a game with yvette but kinda understand why didnt do the coffin one

but ant and dec knew this so why wasnt she taken out on midical wtc reasons like they do on other games

plus would have meant someone else got voted

also feel if they dont do a trial/quite that they lose a % of their fee and goes to charity

Dumbledoresgirl · 20/11/2015 09:56

Well, against expectation, I find I rather like the newcomers. Spencer seems nice enough (but dim - but that can be amusing to watch). Vicki won my admiration for the tough way she dealt with the trial - I loved her Geordie-isms and the way she talked to Ant and Dec - and then the way she chose the campmates who had to go to Snake Rock - she had a good, logical and sympathetic set of reasons for picking who she did and she put it to them all in a flattering way (unlike Tony when he had to order the campmates according to how much work they had done). Ferne is less appealing in my eyes but her screaming fit during the trial and the sight of Ant and Dec trying not to laugh openly was very entertaining.

Did anyone else notice btw, those crabs had their claws disabled? Absolutely nothing the campmates come in contact with are actually dangerous beyond the odd nip - half their hysterics really are completely unnecessary. I would far prefer a snake on my arm or a rat at my foot than those little critters getting under my clothes and tickling me.

SelfLoathing · 20/11/2015 10:49

IliketoClean

you just heard their voices I said to DH that Lady C was Lauren Harries so yes, I agree!

I'm glad it's not just me! It's a weird thing because it is everything - accent, pitch/tone and manner of speaking (pace, choice of words etc).

I gather that Lady C was forced to receive male hormone briefly as a child and wondered if there was a vocal similarity that could be related to this - bearing in mind that Lauren Harries had sex reassignment surgery. (I know that Lady C is not transgender.) Hormonal treatment I guess would only relate to tone/pitch if it has any effect at all.

But that would not explain similar accent - which seems inexlicable - comparing Surrey vs Jamaica!!

I seriously think they could do voice-a-like work for each other.

Cherrypie32 · 20/11/2015 11:46

I like the newcomers. Spencer is made out to look like an utter twat on MIC but came across as friendly without being smarmy, up for it and fun. Vicky was great and good on Ferne for sticking with it as she was obviously petrified. I know what you mean about how dangerous the animals actually are but I'll never forget the snake that literally tucked into Sean Ryder and I can understand the paranoia about things getting in 'holes' after what happened with Fatima that time. Grim.

Dumbledoresgirl · 20/11/2015 14:01

Yes, I was going to say the animals were completely harmless and then remembered Sean Ryder getting bitten by the snake and needing medical attention. His reaction was brilliant too - along the lines of 'fuck me, the little fucker's bitten me', more annoyed than frightened. Grin I don't know how I would react in the same situations (I could NOT do the eating trials, I know) but I do hugely admire those, like Sean, and Vicki last night, who tough it out.

ButterflyUpSoHigh · 20/11/2015 14:26

Lady C sounds nothing like Lauren Harries to my ears.

yes he has. Wonder why?

ElderlyKoreanLady · 20/11/2015 17:30

Yep, just saw that Spencer has left on medical grounds Confused he hadn't even made it to the main camp.

Dumbledoresgirl · 20/11/2015 18:03

Looked up Lauren Harries on youtube - no, I don't hear any similarities either.

Spencer has left? Goodness! I hope he is ok.

Ah no is he gone, I watch mic and know he's a knob on that, but that show is so scripted its ridiculous, was looking forward to seeing what he was really like.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/11/2015 20:18

I can't believe spenny has gone. He was loving the trial so much so can't imagine he would have just walked

Must be medical :(

AnneEyhtMeyer · 20/11/2015 21:02

Evening.

I don't think Spencer is a loss.
