56 Up- just seen one participant has died

Just watching the repeat of 56 Up on ITV1. A caption came up at the end of the segment on Lynn (one of the three East End girls- the one who was a children's librarian) saying she died after a short illness in May 2013. That was a big shock- I don't remember hearing about her death when the programme was on- I suppose at the request of her family. It's so sad- I feel like I've lost one of my own family. She seemed like such a warm, strong lady. In 56 Up she was saying she'd been caring full-time for one of her grandchildren, as well as being Chair of Governors at a school. So sad to suddenly see she's gone. Rest in peace Lynn x

Oh that's sad! I love this series and always watch it. Especially as I am their age and watched it since 7 up which we watched at school!

I didn't know that, very sad. As you said, you feel you have known those people. Not sure when the next one is scheduled, some years off I guess.

The one who always had the long hair? That's sad. Guess it'll happen from now on though . Next one isn't for another 4 years, last was 2012.

Wikipedia says 56 Up was shown on TV in 2012; I thought it was filmed in 2012 and shown in 2013. So that would explain why it wasn't mentioned when the programme was shown.

Michael Apted has said he doesn't know if he will carry on making the "Up" series once participants aren't there or can't continue. Long life and good health to all the others on the series.

Oh that's sad. I'm pretty much the same age and have always followed the programme and quotes from it are often said in our house sad.
I always thought the first to go would be either Neil or Jackie because of their health/social issues. I wonder whether there will be any more as several of them have dropped out already and interest may have waned. I think even if they do make a 63 up it would be the final installment.

It'd be a shame if it was. 63 is no age and it would be so much more interesting to follow them from childhood right through to their 70s and 80s.

Just saw that a library was opened in Lynn's name at the school where she was a governor for many years. A fitting tribute.

That's such a shame. I love that programme; you feel as though you know the participants.
