It is the new HBO mini series on housing from the makers of The Wire.

It is really good, but so uncomfortable viewing. Hard to believe it is set in 1988 not very far from New York.

I am! That just 2 of us then? !
I'm enjoying it but wish Mr. Mayor would be a bit more assertive?

Not watching (not got Sky Atlantic) but it gets amazing reviews and would if I could!

Missanneshirley I know he could step up a bit, but all the politicians appear to be quite bastards to start with.

It is so strange to see Tea party in action decades earlier. They are so scary, and some of them say seriously evil things.

vjg13 I am sure it'll come to terrestrial or dvd, it is that kind of thing.

Did anyone else keep watching this? Just watched the finale thought it was excellent!!

This did seem quite dry at first, and all the way through I struggled with the dialogue, as I am not exactly familiar with American local political terminology! It didn't really cater to a non-US audience at all, but as it went on I was finding it interesting.

Very sad ending - what a waste of his life. So his career in politics wasn't going as planned, so what? He was so young, had a loving wife, and there were many other things he could have done.

Also seems very strange to us in the UK that in the USA they were still struggling with desegregating their cities as late as the 90s - the attitudes of the protestors seem to have come from about 1950 or earlier.

I'm thinking of getting the book now (written by Lisa Belkin).

So glad I wasn't watching alone! Yes it shocked me a bit when the 1990s dates were coming up and it still seemed 1950s issues. Wonder what it's like now?
