Only one out of the 4 that I've not seen live is David Baddiel. Met Punt and Dennis when I was about 13....

Rob Newman was the one everyone fancied wasn't he? Or was that just me ?

tribpot · 25/11/2006 20:33

I did, til he grew his hair long and got weird writing strange novels Punt and Dennis were much more unashamedly mainstream, i.e. appeared on Jasper Carrott. I remember their classic sketch: every year an area the size of Belgium is destroyed in the Amazon. Why not just destroy Belgium?!

chonky · 25/11/2006 20:33

I went to see Newman & Baddiel in Brum - might have been the smae tour Fio? I so fancied Rob Newman

tribpot · 25/11/2006 20:35

On a similar subject, does anyone remember Trevor and Simon, who used to be on Going Live? I remember going to see them at Leeds Poly (as twere) and us all having to sit cross-legged on the floor in the manner of school assembly.

Scootergirl · 25/11/2006 20:36

He was really quite fit - or was that just when he was standing next to the other three trolls?

chonky · 25/11/2006 20:37

he was fit scootergirl, without a doubt...

Yep - remember Trev & Simon too

Scootergirl · 25/11/2006 20:38

Don't tell me you fancied Trev and/or Simon? You'll be after the Chuckle Brothers next you sick bunny!

harpsichordcarrier · 25/11/2006 20:39

god yes
there was a classic sketch about rag and bone men, which still makes me pee myself.
it loses something if I explain it though...
Baddiel was always a twat but funny, yes Rob Newman was a bit fit

tribpot · 25/11/2006 20:40

[PUKE emoticon] at the Chuckle Brothers! Would rather shag a Tellytubby!

No, just reminiscing about comedy acts seen in days of yore. I used to go to the comedy club place - erm, Comedy Store? Where the improv guys used to be on all the time - Paul Merton et al.

Scootergirl · 25/11/2006 20:44

Imagine the days when comedy didn't just consist of weird Justin from CBeebies trying to goose SarahJane in Higgeldy-Piggeldy House...

harpsichordcarrier · 25/11/2006 20:46

hey, I met the Chuckle Borthers

in fact it was my job to look afterthem one summer at Butlins
bet you're all jealous now

FrivolentDemon · 25/11/2006 20:48

Mmmmmmmmmmm Rob Newman....

I still have a t-shirt somewhere

Scootergirl · 25/11/2006 20:49

I once had to review a Chippendales show and got put in a special enclosure at the back with all their 6ft glamourous girlfriends - me 5ft2 fresh from nine hour day at work wearing not a scrap of makeup and trousers with the hem coming down. How to feel really hapy with yourself... not!

Mercy · 25/11/2006 20:52

I certainly remember the show, in fact I remember it being on radio (4?) before it was on tv.

Very funny.

There are virtually NO comedy programmes on tv any more. Or music programmes.

BettySpaghetti · 25/11/2006 21:02

Another Rob Newman fan here . I read an interview with him recently about his writing, very political - didn't recognise him in the photo!

In fact I went out with someone who looked remarkably like him around the time MWE was popular.

Scootergirl · 25/11/2006 21:05

Is the resemblance to RN why you went out with him Betty Go on, admit it...

BettySpaghetti · 25/11/2006 21:10

I went through a phase of liking men with long, dark hair (Rob Newman, Daniel Day-Lewis, the ex....I'm sure there are others but can't think of them)

BettySpaghetti · 25/11/2006 21:11

In fact I think I'm still going through that phase (Johnny Depp being the current one!)

Scootergirl · 25/11/2006 21:15

Well, that's completely normal - what about Ben from X-Factor?
