The new line up for THE VOICE is out - I won't be watching anymore

Ricky - fab
WillIam - fab
Paloma Faith - No, a million times no.
Boy George - a disgusting little boil on the arse of humanity. The BBC has chosen a man convicted of violent crime, drug offences and making false claims to the police to front their show?! Shock

What's next, Chris Brown to host?

Boy George did a spot in the last series of Strictly. His voice was awful and held up by the backing singers singing all the high notes. I feel sorry for whoever will be singing with him (at least they won't be over shadowed...).

mrspremise · 15/08/2015 16:10

I adore Sir Tom, I only watched the programme because of him, so that's a decision made for me...

Roussette · 15/08/2015 16:44

I love love Paloma and will be interested in BoyGeorge.... its WillIam I wish they'd get rid of, he is tedious in the extreme with all the stupid stuff he says. He would've been my first one to go then TJ.

BackInTheRealWorld · 15/08/2015 16:46

I love Paloma and Boy George do I'm happy as a pig in shit! Grin

TellitToTheTrees · 15/08/2015 20:44

I'm surprised people don't care about Boy George's revolting past and by the sounds of it he's lost it musically too. Maybe in 20yrs we won't care what Chris Brown or Ched Evans did either. Maybe it is because his 'victim' was another man. If he'd handcuffed a woman to a wall and beaten her with chains mumsnet might have more to say about it.

Also agree hats off to Tom Jones for his dignified response to the shitty way he was treated.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 15/08/2015 21:13

Sounds like you have a bit of an agenda Tell.

TellitToTheTrees · 15/08/2015 21:18

What sort of agenda?! Confused
I started a thread saying I won't be watching the voice because I don't like Boy George or Paloma Faith. I expected that some people would agree but I should know better than thinking I know what to expect on mumsnet! Threads go off in all sorts of directions.

I've expressed some surprise at the lack of distaste for Boy George's past and expressed a theory as to why. Pretty standard mumsnet behaviour. No agenda.

OP posts:
WixingMords · 15/08/2015 21:21

Flipping heck what did he do?

I don't rate Boy George musically so think he's a poor choice but if he's a violent criminal record I don't think he should be put up in a position of acclaim.

Roussette · 15/08/2015 21:25

What's the matter with Paloma Faith?! Nothing AFAIC. I think she's wonderful. Kooky and mad. What's wrong with that?

Roussette · 15/08/2015 21:27

and Tom Jones was bloody boring on there. Sorry but I think he was

SirChenjin · 15/08/2015 21:30

I quite agree telling - there is no way MN would be so welcoming of BG if his victim had been a woman. Absolutely shocking Shock

SirChenjin · 15/08/2015 21:31

tellit

FrancesOldhamKelseyRIP · 15/08/2015 21:34

Here's the details of the case. Like the OP I do wonder if he'd still be a National Treasure if he'd done that to a female prostitute. But the public can be fickle - Leslie Grantham was a huge star despite being an actual murderer, so you can't tell what will be classed as "he's served his time, he should be allowed to put it behind him" and what will become a permanent stain.

TellitToTheTrees · 15/08/2015 21:37

I didn't know that about Leslie Grantham Shock

OP posts:
TellitToTheTrees · 15/08/2015 21:40

Oh and there's nothing 'wrong' with Paloma Faith, I just find her a bit annoying and can't stand her music. That's just personal taste though!

OP posts:
pomegranatesandfilms · 15/08/2015 23:15

I agree Tell I don't think I will be able to look at BG without thinking about what he did - not ideal whilst watching and relaxing with my children. Confused I just don't get why they chose him there must be loads of big fish after this gig.

fabuLou · 15/08/2015 23:22

Horrid creature

Mintyy · 15/08/2015 23:25

Agree, op, Boy George is not a worthy replacement for Tom Jones and I'm truly surprised at people's very short memories.

TellitToTheTrees · 16/08/2015 06:07

I'm glad it's not just me! I know he has 'served his time' but I still don't think that putting him as the face of a prime time television slot is acceptable. The BBC recently sacked Jeremy Clarkson for a less 'serious' violent offence (after admittedly a lot of other incidents but then BG has a lot of other incidents behind him too) - what's their reasoning here?!

As others have said there must be other people out there who could have done The Voice rather than BG.

OP posts:
TheGirlOnTheLanding · 16/08/2015 08:01

I'm with you Tell - I'd have thought given recent prosecutions and investigations the Beeb would have wanted to distance themselves from violent and sexually abusive criminals rather than pay them large amounts of money and give them airtime.

MyLovelyFriend2015 · 16/08/2015 08:09

I dont like BG but you can hardly bring up Jeremy Clarkson as an example of where the bbc is going wrong

Jeremy Clarkson is a bully through and through

BG.... Hmmm while he has 'done his time' (the crime was horrible) personally I don't think he should be on a teatime family show with his background, and I think the bbc have dropped a bollock here.

Tom Jones is a 'national treasure', BG knows a lot about music but there's not the affection for him

TellitToTheTrees · 16/08/2015 11:24

Oh no, you have the wrong end of the stick! I completely agree with the BBC sacking Jeremy Clarkson, the man's an utter dick. My confusion was why they were sacking him with one hand and hiring BG with the other one. Talk about double standards! Personally I'd be happy to never see or hear anything from either one again.

OP posts:
Shakey1500 · 16/08/2015 22:26

I like Boy George and think he'll be great smile

My sister met Paloma Faith last week shock

Adore Will.I.Am

Ricky, hmm, not to sure about him. Just...something about him I'm not keen on.

Ref Tom Jones, indeed he is an absolute legend. But, surely he knew before 24hrs confused?

So, what you up to tomorrow Tom?
Well, I'm supposed to be doing The Voice
Ah ok, where you got to be then?
Don't know.
What time?
Errr not sure?
They sending a car for you as per?
Um....
You signed a contract though?
Well, now you come to mention it...
And you haven't thought to check any details till NOW??
Well, you see, I've met Elvis, so naturally assumed..
You bloody idiot.

^^I also posted this on another thread ref same topic

LineyRunner · 16/08/2015 22:39

Just read that link. George O'Dowd got 15 months in jail for violently attacking a young man whom he had chained to a radiator. The guy ripped the fixture off the wall in order to escape, whilst George and his sidekick were reportedly standing by with straps, chains and sex toys to inflict further abuse. That would be violent physical and sexual abuse, presumably.

Slow hand clap for the BBC. Ffs.

pomegranatesandfilms · 16/08/2015 22:59

Yes the mind boggles, but sack Clarkson for one punch. Not that I like Clarkson may be if he had added a sexual slant on it he may have kept his job.

Is any one really running the BBC or are they just running it on autopilot?
