I just came on here because I KNEW there would be a thread about the names! Rawle I suppose is an ok sort of name, very unusual but at least sounds like a name. But Beetroot...really? Someone would name their child after a vegetable?

Elledouble · 14/07/2015 21:10

I exclaimed over that too - BEETROOT!

turdfairynomore · 14/07/2015 21:13

I came here too as I KNEW there'd be a thread!

turdfairynomore · 14/07/2015 21:16

Interesting choices! Made me think that if I had to choose a noun to nand my child I wonder what I'd choose??? I like "window sill" & "bulldozer" just because I like the way they make my mouth move!!

MrsSkywalker205 · 14/07/2015 21:17

Also came here to find the thread Grin fucking ridiculous, but comedy gold! wonders if you are a friend who saw my status

BlueBananas · 14/07/2015 21:19

Haha I've just text my Mum the exact same thing!
I presumed it was 'Raul' though? Is that not how it's spelt?
After hearing Beetroot I've added Parsnip to the list for DC3 - Parsnip is more masculine than Beetroot yes?

scarletforya · 14/07/2015 21:20

Who looks at a baby girl and thinks vegetable? Confused

What next, Turnip? Potato?

OP posts:
Elledouble · 14/07/2015 22:20

It was Rawle (like the plug?) according to the subtitles couldn't hear over shouty baby.

chickenfuckingpox · 14/07/2015 22:23

i am hoping they are nicknames that are being used to protect their identities

Username12345 · 14/07/2015 23:02

She would be a good match for Kale from Child Genius Grin

BlueBananas · 15/07/2015 08:48

Ah like the plug, yes!
I presumed it was like Paul but with a R
...not that either of these things make them better of course Confused

spiderlight · 15/07/2015 09:30

I knew there'd be a thread and you lot haven't let me down! Maybe they were nicknames for Beatrix and Paul

LIZS · 15/07/2015 09:33

Agree spider light. Could have been Raul I suppose. I doubt they will be using those names as international journalists or whatever. The house owner's story was rather sad

WaggleBee · 15/07/2015 13:55

Was it a mis-spelling of Raoul?

BloodyDogHairs · 16/07/2015 00:10

I've only just watched it tonight, surely no one names their daughter Beetroot!!

SymphonyofShadows · 24/07/2015 13:05

I know an adult Raul, with that spelling. It's a real name in the caribbean, not sure about Rawle though.

fuzzpig · 24/07/2015 13:09

Who looks at a baby girl and thinks vegetable?

Well... babies do come out pretty pink when they're born I guess?

Seriously though, where can I watch this programme? :o

BloodyDogHairs · 24/07/2015 14:31

Ch4, the series is ended now but I'm sure it'll be on catch-up or repeated at some point.

fuzzpig · 24/07/2015 15:09

thanks:)

Pixel · 24/07/2015 19:09

Maybe Beetroot screams a lot and gets red in the face? As in the saying 'red as a beetroot'. Or blushes a lot. please say it is only a nickname

NorahBone · 24/07/2015 23:34

I think Fuzzpig has it. The parents must have said "we haven't decided on a name, we'll just see what she looks like when she's born".

Selks · 24/07/2015 23:46

I assumed Beetroot was a nickname for something like Beatrice....did it say Beetroot in the credits? Was it actually her name?

I exclaimed too! I can imagine mumsnetters up and down the country watching and going 'Beetroot! WTF!' Grin

I saw about ten minutes of this, and as soon as I heard the children's names I wondered what Mumsnet would make of them. Grin

5madthings · 25/07/2015 23:11

Beetroot must be a nickname?
Ds1 looked like a beetroot as a newborn Tbf, all screwed up and bright red.
