5/6 - One Kiss Could Kill Him

It's natural for a mother to kiss and cuddle her baby, but it's something that Lisa Ellis daren't do. Her son, nine-month- old Toby, has a rare genetic condition called Ipex Syndrome, which means that if he gets the tiniest cold or infection, his immune system could go into overdrive and kill him. This touching documentary follows Lisa and Toby in the months while they wait for a bone marrow transplant, his only hope if he's to make it past his first birthday. What makes it doubly distressing to watch is that Lisa's younger sister is pregnant and fears she may give birth to an Ipex baby, too. When Lisa finally gives little Toby a kiss, her whole family is in floods of tears - you probably will be, too.

I am an absolute wuss with needles etc but this really really made me think about going on the bone marrow register.

We don't realise how lucky we are.
