Emma Thompson a cockerney? Since when?

I caught a bit of Jonathan Ross the other night and as I was away from home, couldn't post on mn straight away with my burning question.

Plummy old gal Emma Thompson's accent has gone way downhill. She was dropping her aitches (my 'ero), glottal stopping at every opportunity, twisting her diphthongs out of shape. Bizarre, it was.

So when exactly did this fruity ex-frump change her accent? Anyone know?

since being a mockney-cockney became the new rock 'n roll I guess

(I noticed too)

She's been doing it for years.

Tony Blair does it too sometimes.

Yes. Ridiculous. Never thought much of her.

It's must be cos her sister is now on Eastenders. WTF?! I have no idea what that's all about, but caught about 5 mins earlier as I was seeing if there was anything on tv tonight (there isn't) and in walks Sophie Thomson doing her daffy schtick. No hint of a Cockerney accent that I noticed.

ha ha, I didn't see it but I LIKE Emma, c'mon, Nanny McPhee was fab, she's fantastic, so what if she drops the odd aitch? (do agree it's odd but didn't see it, haven't heard it etc)

Oh I love nnanny McPhee too.

It was all so contrived and shuddery. Her mock accent, not NMcP.
