I heard that a couple of weeks ago, apparently he was being "groomed" to see whether he would fit in or not!. They were keen for Carol Vorderman to do it but she didn't feel right stepping into Richard Whiteley's role.

Agree Des Lynam was crap at it.

Des O'Connor is just like Richard Whiteley. Corny jokes, lots of giggling, harmlessly pleasant butt of other people's jokes. Ideal for Countdown.

Des O is a HUGE improvement on Des L. He asked if it could be moved to London to shoot as he didn't like the travelling, then made out he had quit to stop others having to move down South, IMO.
