anyone watch this?
Liking the cinematography, the colours,
good looking lead actor, bit miscast.
not sure if it will totally grab me but so so, so far

I wasn't overly impressed, a little too much style over substance. I thought the 1970s colours were overdone and I thought the lead man was pretty dull. Meh.

Just watching. love the look and style but not sure if it will be ultimately disappointing. Going to stick suth it. I don't "get" the lead actor's accent, where is he supposed to be from and is he supposed to be posh or not? I think he's a modern Michael Caine?!

Just caught up with this. Will watch one more but am not gripped at the moment.

Leading man is trying for 'mean and moody' but only achieving 'dull'. What the actual is his accent meant to be??

It's rather fragmented and I feel that they're making it complicated for its own sake rather than showing us genuinely complicated things.

I like the rather camp senior operative with mother issues though. And the clothes.

I watched the first one and thought was a bit dull. I also wondered about his accent and thought sounded like he was going for Scouse. DH (who is a plastic Scouse) agreed and said it sounded like someone trying to do a Liverpool accent. However I looked him up afterwards (was ever so slightly smitten) and he's from Cheshire and does have a definite merseysude twang so wonder if he was trying to suppress it.

The camp guy is the dad from Friday Night Dinner and also just this week, No Offence?

Oh good! I'm still not sure about the accent, I thought he might be going for Welsh! The other spies are all clipped Queen's English, aren't they ? Maybe they are emphasising him being an outsider..

but the man who was shot was rather obvious wasnt he, he had a definite baddy expression, as did the woman from the clip next week

i wasn't concentrating very well to be fair

I'm enjoying it but it's not a masterpiece!

My husband watched episode 1 and wasn't impressed - style over substance exactly his view. It's not John Le Carre, that's for sure! A little bit more like Len Deighton, but not as good. They've definitely filched the interior look from the film of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

I thought the lead was Eddie Redmayne at first - more like him than BC, surely? His voice reminded me of Paul McGann, looks not unlike either. This is all to to the good...

I'm always pleased to see Steven Macintosh in anything -such a good actor. His character this week was an absolute shit and I was pleased he got his comeuppance, though!

Victoria Hamilton is getting more and more attractive and interesting-looking with age, which is a very fortunate thing for a good actress, as she should have a long career ahead of her. Must be hard being an extremely beautiful young person and then gradually realising your looks are no longer anything out of the ordinary. I've always been pretty average, so middle age has not been hard to come to terms with.

I'm quite enjoying this - I think it's got better as it goes along. The last episode was quite exciting, and am enjoying the mole suspense (I think its that police guy who;s name I've forgotten - Jim??)

I like the female characters, especially Victoria Hamilton camp Bobby and his dreadful knee touching moment with Wendy, and lovely to see Judy Parfitt shamelessly scene stealing Grin

Yes, I agree chocolatelife. His accent is weird and he's mumbly. My DH loves it, I'm a bit meh (loved Being Human by the same writer). I watch it simply to get my weekly scene of "mummy", Judy Parfitt - superb!!

Just watched last night's episode. The lead actor is from Sheffield - according to Vogue.

I'm not keen on the excessive brownness of everything, and it's ridiculously slow, but there does now seem to be a tiny bit of plot; the teensiest twist to keep us hanging on for next week. Some nice acting of rather bad acting - I assume - from Alan.

The 70s was very brown, though, Zero! We were watching The China Syndrome the other night (released in 1979) and my husband made a point of commenting on how brown everything was.

D'you think Alan has colluded with his wife or did he frame himself to give her the freedom to get on with whatever she's doing? As she's supposed to be so clever I'm hoping there's some sort of triple bluff going on.
