Anyone watching? This sort of slipped under the radar for me till I saw it on iPlayer and I've been enjoying catching up. It's sort of in the Bake-Off/Sewing Bee genre but rather more serious. I'm hopeless at art but like seeing how artists work. Richard or Claire to win.

Yes. I've enjoyed this. Some of the challenges have been so difficult, especially the dancing episode.

The judges don't hold back with their comments. I felt particularly sorry for Anthea. She looked crushed at the end, poor thing.

I think Richard will win.

Akire · 28/03/2015 22:06

I haven really enjoyed good mix off how to draw and techicques and drama. I did feel sorry for them last week they were all so depressed but it's hard having your work talked about all the time.

I thought asking them to draw dancers was really really hard . I wouldn't have a clue. I hope they all see, happier tomorrow when it's over!

Akire · 28/03/2015 22:08

Oh I think Richard or the other guy will win too. Was disappointing that the abstrac lady was still in when she can't really draw! I'm all for abstract some of the time but her dancers was just scribble lines.

Cecyhall · 28/03/2015 22:09

I really wanted to like this, I love the portrait one with frank skinner and the American one where which are on sky arts, but I just could not get into this at all. The judges are very critical which I feel should be a good thing but made me feel a bit grumpy after a while!

Horsemad · 28/03/2015 22:10

I've been watching and enjoying it. I can't believe Una Stubbs is 77! Shock

Grantaire · 28/03/2015 22:12

I adore Una.

I am very much enjoying the series. It's inspired me to get my paints out again.

MissWimpyDimple · 28/03/2015 22:12

My 8 y.o DD is obsessed with it! We have a running countdown all week and she tries to sketch along with it.

She loves art anyway but this has really fired her up! I've found her an art class to join from next term too Grin

FrChewieLouie · 28/03/2015 22:16

Dd2 (9) has been glued to this - so interesting, and very tough for the competitors to have to try and show skill in so many styles and media.

We want Claire to win.

ILikeToClean · 29/03/2015 20:23

DD and I watched this as Claire is an ex pupil at dd's school. Thought the right person won, I predicted him ages ago, although I know nothing and can't draw a thing! Really love Una she looks amazing!

wideboy26 · 29/03/2015 21:15

Una does look amazing, but what does she add to the show? She appears to know nothing about art and her contribution seems to be sympathetic noises when participants are up against it or are set tough challenges. And what on earth was she wearing on tonight's show? I'm sure she's in her 70's, but I doubt she is as old as 77.

takemeuptheeiffeltower · 29/03/2015 21:18

Una looks a mess. She looks like Harry Potter in an over-sized dress.

Trying to hard to look arty Hmm

Hexiegone · 30/03/2015 08:54

Una Stubbs is 77 and had two of her own watercolours exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts’ Summer Exhibition last year.

Nice, Takeme Hmm

HappydaysArehere · 01/04/2015 10:09

Really enjoyed this. The judges were trying to be critical but constructive. Art is always subjective and that is why the judges sometimes disagree. They had a difficult job selecting the winner but in the end he shone out. That last painting was wonderful. Just hope this series will be repeated and doesn't go the way of Watercolour challenge.

doings · 01/04/2015 10:59

Cecyhall I love the Frank Skinner Portrait one too. What's the name of the American version - I haven't seen that one but would like to. Thanks.

Cecyhall · 01/04/2015 18:20

doings the American one was called Next Great Artist I think, it's quite old but sometimes Sky Arts repeat it, it was edited in a very American way but had different kinds of artists like sculptors and photographers as well as painters which was interesting.

Cherrypi · 01/04/2015 18:23

I enjoyed the series but Richard's bright yellow watch irritated me. I also wanted to see what they were up to now updates at the end like bake off.

doings · 02/04/2015 09:06

Cecyhall Thanks I'll keep a lookout for it.

HappydaysArehere · 02/04/2015 10:25

One of the contestants has been writing about his experience on the show in the Leisure Painter and there is some exhibition of work that the contestants have been doing since the programme. There is more in the sister paper The Artist. Pity that only the winner is showing at the Tate. When Watercolour Challenge was on all the contestants work was on show at the Mall Gallery. It was packed as it had a huge following.

jalopy · 02/04/2015 19:20

I used to love Watercolour challenge. I think Hannah Gordon used to be the presenter.

Did anyone like 'Show me your Monet'. That was a brilliant series too. One of the judges used to be really brutual with his opinions. Loved it all though.
Hope they do the Big Painting Challenge next year.

The80sweregreat · 03/04/2015 13:49

They axed show me the monet. The judges were a good mix of folk, i liked the older guy on there. I know little about art, but i admire people that can draw, paint and be creative. I wished i could do it. Tate modern is my favourite gallery to visit.

HoraceCope · 04/04/2015 12:54

which man won?

HoraceCope · 04/04/2015 12:56

google confirmed it for me, yes i liked him, and the other ex army chappie, but indeed he did shine

TongueBiter · 04/04/2015 13:03

Claire is lovely. I stalked found her on FB - she has a page with her paintings and posts about her experience on the show.

HoraceCope · 04/04/2015 13:04

i didnt see the final two episodes - another one who didnt like the judges criticism, particularly the female judge. quite harsh

HoraceCope · 04/04/2015 13:05

i did like the older lady with the hat's drawings, they were cartoony
