Anyone watching? What do you think so far?

Weelass83 · 16/02/2015 21:28

It's scaring me that this might be our future!

lostoncemore · 16/02/2015 21:32

Was going to watch on plus one :) is it worth a watch?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/02/2015 21:35

It is scary! I wonder how legal it is to show such a politically biased mockumentary though.

fruitloopsandfruitshoots · 16/02/2015 21:36

It is terrifying that this could become a reality.

I am shocked that channel 4 were allowed to make it though? So close to the election, surely UKIP are going to be extremely angry?! Not that I care, I am not a UKIP fan, but it seems like the opposite of propaganda?!

fruitloopsandfruitshoots · 16/02/2015 21:39

Actually...I think i misunderstood the definition of propaganda. It IS propaganda isn't it?

Weelass83 · 16/02/2015 21:48

The Border Enforcement bit is reminiscent of the Nazis trying to get rid of the Jews! Obviously minus the concentration camps, but that's what went through my head iyswim

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/02/2015 21:48

I think so fruitloop.

AWholeLottaNosy · 16/02/2015 22:09

Just started to watch it. I do hope it is anti UKIP rather than actually making it look attractive....

ScrambledSmegs · 16/02/2015 22:10

I think it was good. An interesting piece of drama. I actually found that bit where the white supremacist guy basically embraced Deepa more chilling than anything else.

It was pretty daft that channel 4 were trying to set up an interview with Nigel Farage to air straight afterwards. Yeah, like that was ever going to happen!

OP posts:
ScrambledSmegs · 16/02/2015 22:12

It is very definitely anti-ukip. Just as well, after the arse-lickey shenanigans that went on with Farage & Gogglebox.

OP posts:
Shlep · 16/02/2015 22:13

It was pretty frightening tbh, but liked the ending I guess (predictable as it was). Was also confused about the UKIP supporting crowd using an Israeli flag in one of the protests, not sure of the connection there?

bunchoffives · 16/02/2015 22:32

Think that might be down to the fact that they used some real footage of real demos Shlep

Nigel Farage shouldn't be complaining too much - the mockumentary repeatedly 'reported' how popular UKIP policies were.

I thought it was very good. I hope it will give people who are intending to vote UKIP as a protest vote an opportunity to really think through what exactly they are lending their support to.

Notrevealingmyidentity · 16/02/2015 22:36

I don't think it will. Those people will brush it off as lies.

meandjulio · 16/02/2015 22:39

If I were Farage I would use it as an opportunity to talk about 'the reality of a UKIP government would be' because he wouldn't normally get to talk about such a patently unlikely scenario without people laughing in his face.

TBH I am also slightly surprised by the timing but I guess the election campaign is not officially on yet.

AWholeLottaNosy · 16/02/2015 22:54

Oh God this is so horribly realistic...

' Being a migrant is not a crime'

Notrevealingmyidentity · 16/02/2015 22:55

It's not mea that's how they've been allowed to show it.

ouryve · 16/02/2015 22:59

DH sniggered at the protest banner "down with this sort of thing"

I think it's only the last month or so when TV channels have to try to be truly impartial.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/02/2015 23:03

It's once the election has been officially declared which used to be about 5 weeks beforehand, but I'm not sure with fixed term parliaments.

AWholeLottaNosy · 16/02/2015 23:13

I think it's time C4 showed again the excellent documentary, ' The Nazis, A warning from history'. We can laugh at UKIP. but it only takes the economic conditions to get worse for them to seem a viable option...

WineWineWine · 16/02/2015 23:20

I thought it was very interesting.
Even if ukip aren't racist, it's going to be impossible for them to prevent a large number of racists aligning themselves with them.
Just how do we find all those illegal immigrants? Maybe we could just pick them up when they come in to claim all those benefits!? (Or maybe they don't actually claim benefits if they're here illegally)
Large companies will pull out of the UK -there is no doubt on that. Whether it would lead to riots, who knows.

Notrevealingmyidentity · 16/02/2015 23:47

I actually though the "ting tong" comment was made up. I was go smacked when I googled the meaning and found it to be a real clip.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2015 19:52

Ofcom said to the bbc about the program "all of the 731 complaints raised the same issue, describing the programme as an unfair portrayal of UKIP ahead of the election period."

Do you think they all copied and pasted the same letter?

HelenaDove · 17/02/2015 22:44

This is bloody scary and its giving me chills ....not good ones.

WholeLotta i think they should show those docs again too.

Because many just dont seem to learn from history Sad

AgaPanthers · 18/02/2015 00:17

I think the fact that c4 have made such a ridiculously biased hatchet job would tend to make UKIP more popular, because it's kind of media lies vs. 'honest UKIP'. People don't like hatchet jobs.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 18/02/2015 07:34

I thought it was good.
Can imagine ukip speech writers writing notes Wink

It's scary to think what could happen.
