I can remember when the legislation was changed to make rape within marriage a criminal offence, I was an adult. Shocking to think how recent that was. And the decriminalising of homosexuality was only 2 years before I was born.

I wasn't listening properly but I am sure the ships was a recent article they said.

Another thing I found out last night, in the early modern period or maybe before - I have forgotten- the Catholic Church allowed women to masturbate after sex if they hadn't orgasmed as it was believed that a women needed to irgasm to become pregnant.

Sometimes I wonder if this lecturer - not to be confused with THE lecturer- makes this shit up.

The worst thing about that rape legislation is it took over 100 years to come about.

On the whole 'haven't we come far', I remember watching Esther Rantzen on That's Life campaigning for women who had been sacked for daring to wear trousers to work.

I also remember shitting myself in 1989 when my withdrawal bleeding didn't come on time. A horrible 3 days of worrying and trying to work out how, as an 18yo student, I would get the wherewithal to travel to the mainland and how I would even start trying to organise getting an abortion. I was very, very careful to take my pills within a strict 2hr period from then onwards.

Fancy - ouch on the eye thing. Hope all is feeling better by now.

The eye is fine thanks, it was a fairly short lived effect but not being able to focus properly was odd. It was like only having one contact lens in (or like the memorable time I stuck them both in the same eye )

Just watched Comtess link of Adrian and Jess. Liked it a lot. But I really think they are missing the core thing. They just don't get it. We want 'the musketeers togever' and 'funny lines that made us laugh' - what series 1 WAS! Adrian just doesn't seem to get this.
