Am I the only one who watched this?

Absolutely brilliant drama about how the trial of Adolf Eichmann for war crimes was brought to television. It contained a lot of footage of the trial and concentration camps, some of it very harrowing, mixed in with the drama. If you didn't see it, I would highly recommend it. Martin Freeman and especially Antony LaPaglia were brilliant. I'll be amazed if it doesn't win some awards.

I have recorded it - am going to watch tonight.

Pagwatch · 22/01/2015 10:42

No, not the only one.
It was really well done. Excellent production and performances and a great watch.
My only slight quibble was that they seemed to try and create moments of drama that weren't there - the 'action' would build to a moment that was then just anti-climactic .
The story was extraordinary enough without fake tension.
But a difficult yet excellent watch.

I have it recorded, but will have to find the right moment to view it. I'm going to rewatch 'Conspiracy', which is a superb dramatic reconstruction of the Wannsee Conference, at the same sitting. If you haven't seen 'Conspiracy', I recommend it - it is an horrifically chilling and fascinating study, and searingly unforgettable.

Not heard of that - will definitely give that a watch too. On a similar note, I bought the book 'Ravensbruck' this week. All about the nly women only concentration camp. Also terrifyingly chilling and gripping.

I have downloaded to re-watch....i missed the first half hour but got sucked in. I think Pagwitch has it right: a difficult but excellent watch....particularly difficult to look at when they edited in the footage from the camps.

The scene towards the end with Rebecca Front as Mrs Landau and Anthony LaPaglia's Hurwitz was very powerful. Was blown away as i just associate Front with her detective-drama-by-numbers roles in things like Lewis and Midsomer Murders...

LouiseBrooks · 22/01/2015 21:28

I've never seen Rebecca Front in anything, I've only read her book, which is good fun.

Eichmann's trial is on youtube if any of us could cope.

DD and I watched it and thought it was excellent.

I was so touched by the way it affected all of the film makers and how they looked after each other.

Davros · 22/01/2015 22:27

I thought it was really well made but found the non-trial footage rather flat and dull, sorry! It was worth watching but I was disappointed with it overall. We looked for Conspiracy afterwards on Apple TV as its really good but Apple don't have it, argh! I like Valkyrie too although it got poor reviews

mollyonthemove · 23/01/2015 08:00

I watched this last night and really enjoyed it. Just couldn't watch all the camp footage though - I usually manage but for some reason it was really difficult. Maybe because the testimonies were so stark Sad why was Leo so desperate to see Eichmann crack I wonder?

TheTravellingLemon · 23/01/2015 08:06

Molly I think it was a result of his own struggle to understand what happened. He wanted Eichmann to show some remorse or emotion because he needed to see that eichmann was just a man.

I watched this and for the first 10 minutes I struggled to get into it but after that became engrossed. Not an easy watch but quality drama/documentary.
