Anyone watching this?

Watched the first one and really enjoyed it though saw the 'twist' coming a mile off. It's only 3 parts so will be interesting to see if they tie it up or if it's a starter for a full series.

I also suspected what was going on, partly because I have read too much Hugh Howey and partly because I was unable to suspend disbelief about details of technological design.

I do think it's an interesting premise, and I'll definitely watch part 2.

Yeah, hope they give some info on how the social structure evolved, also why there doesn't seem to be any innovation/progress within the new community. I hope there's time to expand the storyline about the little girl (is she psychic?) and I am convinced somebody on board has to be a plant!

TheFirstOfHerName · 17/01/2015 16:30

also why there doesn't seem to be any innovation/progress within the new community

The rate of innovation and progress is proportional to the size of the population. One of the reasons ours is exponential is that we are now a global community who can share ideas. Either that or progress has been subtly 'discouraged'.

I want to know where all the old people have gone. If the original crew were mostly aged 20-40, they would now be 70-90. Are all 600 of them dead?

How do they prevent the population increasing? Are there limits put on reproduction, like in 'Wool'? Apart from Christa, I didn't see any children.

Yeah I assume the population is all controlled (who by though? Computer, Harris or an agency) Vieondra (sp? ) alluded to it when she was talking about when she was 'matched' to the Capt.
You see the innovation thing for me was because the victim has sex before she died.but they didn't do DNA as assuming it hadn't been invented (who trained the doctor?), but couples were genetically matched, see above ?
Lots of questions

TheFirstOfHerName · 17/01/2015 18:22

The level of scientific progress seems quite variable. The entire crew accept the presence of artificial gravity, yet they took an entire library of printed paper books.

I enjoyed it. Will be interesting to see how it develops. Especially with a cylon on board.

Paisleychick · 18/01/2015 07:25

I've got it taped and will watch it soon. I'm so curious to what the Hugh Howey connection is. I loved Wool, reading Shift now.

TheFirstOfHerName · 18/01/2015 08:57

Especially with a cylon on board.

Yes! I kept wanting to call out "she's a Cylon!" every time she appeared.

Spoiler ish

I liked it and didn't see the twist coming but was curious to how they stayed in the air. Looking forward to tomorrow

After the big reveal at the end of last week's double episode, I was worried it wouldn't be able to keep the momentum going, but I thought this week's episodes were better.

Some accurate predictions from Minniemagoo upthread.

Where did all the lithium carbonate go? When they added the lithium hydroxide to the CO2 scrubbers, a massive amount of water was produced. Lithium carbonate is the other product in the reaction; where did it all go?

BreakingDad77 · 02/02/2015 14:17

I think there is a bit of disbelief needed as there is the whole spare parts argument unless there is a computer/machinery fabrication area which has been overlooked.

Maybe the water went to the lower decks lol also how are they going to replace the chemicals that they vented!

Are interested to see what happens next though wary of it becoming silly.

TheFirstOfHerName · 02/02/2015 15:18

Wasn't that the end of the series?

OP posts:
SnakeyMcBadass · 02/02/2015 15:20

I was disappointed. I thought it was a mini series and would tie up neatly. Instead it left us hanging and pissed me off.

BreakingDad77 · 02/02/2015 15:26

To begin with I thought it was going to be one but now seems like its an extended pilot?

MadameJosephine · 08/02/2015 16:07

Was that the end? How bloody annoying, why do they keep doing this to me, every american series I like seems to end just as it was getting interesting (remember the event?) Anybody know if there are any plans for more?

TheFirstOfHerName · 08/02/2015 19:01

I think they like to leave it on a cliffhanger in the hope that it will increase the likelihood of a second season being approved.

I saw the last one of this recently. Such an exciting idea, spoiled by a spectacularly bad and unbelievable ending. I didn't get what was going on and what had happened to the young black officer. I looked on IMDB, and apparently Christa's supernatural powers have sent him through a wormhole in space to another habitable planet, and somehow the government agencies that set up the Ascension project always knew this was going to happen, and were selectively breeding the people on board knowing that they would arrive at this outcome. Right ............

I had thought that the outburst of energy she produced was going to power the spaceship to actually leave the ground (which would have been quite incredible enough for me) and when we saw Stokes running and looking over towards the place where Ascension was hidden, thought he'd see it taking off.

Why do so many shows start off so well and then have rubbish endings. Does nobody know how to do a satisfactory ending anymore?

Unless it's a setup for a further, longer series. Which I would probably still watch, but I feel as though the whole tone of the show has changed now, it's not the kind of programme I thought it was (one where the premise is just about believable).

BreakingDad77 · 09/02/2015 10:36

Agreed I thought the ship might actually take off but was left \t the end thinking oh dear some writer is holding a candle for Heroes.
