I think it was a bit of both (religion and race) with the moors fancy. Well they hadnt practised for more than 100 years I think, cos theyd been forbidden. But they still werent "pure" catholics, whatever that means, so they all got murdered, mostly. Its very and basically totally ignored / forgotten about in Spain.
