Writer Frank Deasy

1/2

This is the last ever Prime Suspect and, fittingly, it's a stop-you-in-your-tracks, brilliant drama that's thoughtful, multilayered and exquisitely well acted, written and directed. It is a stunning piece of television that's already won my vote as drama of the year because nothing else comes close. Helen Mirren as Detective Superintendent Jane Tennison gives a career-best performance (and what a career) as a woman who's spent a lifetime in the police and is weeks from retirement. But Tennison is a mess: flawed, lonely, struggling with an alcohol problem and trying to cope with the tearing hole that's about to be ripped in her life by the imminent death of her terminally ill father. And she has one last case left to solve: the disappearance of a 14-year-old girl. Frank Deasy's marvellous script is precisely what every TV crime drama script should be: a finely honed, perfectly pitched examination of the consequences of one devastating act on concentric circles of people, from the missing girl's parents, through her friends and associates, to the officers investigating her disappearance. This is essential viewing. Do not, whatever you do, miss it or next week's concluding episode.

Can't wait! Not sure I'll make it to 11pm though as I have to be up at 5.30 for work!

Record the end so it doesn't matter if you fall asleep

Will do - though I'll have to stick my fingers in my ears when they're all talking about it in the staffroom tomorrow!

I've watched all the Prime Suspects and this one didn't disappoint. Can't wait for next Sunday! I know this is the last ever, just hope she doesn't die....

WelshBoris · 16/10/2006 09:25

I cried all the way through it

MorticiaRed · 16/10/2006 21:23

Fantastic! Who do you reckon did it then?

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 16/10/2006 21:27

Well Stephen Tomkinson is the big name - and in other programmes it's often the 'star' that turns out to be the baddie, but it's not always the way in Prime Suspect. He must have a pretty big part to play, though, and at least be under suspicion, I reckon.

CurrantBun · 17/10/2006 14:01

NOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooo!!! Can't believe I missed it! Didn't even realise it was on - they didn't exactly madly advertise it in advance.

Does anyone know if Sunday's one will be repeated before next Sunday?

WelshBoris · 17/10/2006 14:04

it was steven tomkinsons daughter

she found out her best mate was seeing her dad

i bet you any money

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 17/10/2006 14:27

Ooh - could be welshboris. Mind you, his wife's looking pretty nervous too - could be her, for the same reason?

MorticiaRed · 17/10/2006 20:26

WelshBoris - you and my DH think the same. However, DH insists he's 'seen it before' and won't have it that it's a brand new episode! CurrantBun - try ITV2, I bet they'll repeat it. x

MissyBabee · 18/10/2006 08:33

apparently, its repeated next saturday!

i think the headmaster did it because, as you say, its stephen tomkinson and he's not going to have a minor part is he.
