I was about 13 when it was first shown on BBC and I remember how sad I was when Pete Duel killed himself. I don't think I've seen it on TV since, so its just like watching it first time around. Love it!! Still makes me sad though, thinking just how young he was.

Yes, me too Dfg. Enjoying the episodes (though they are all pretty samey aren't they, watching them from this distance?!) but so sad about Pete Duel. I think he had a younger brother, also an actor.

Dfg15 · 10/08/2014 21:38

Yes they are all similar, but I'm still enjoying them. They seemed to have such good chemistry between them. He did have a brother, he's still around, as far as I know. Didn't enjoy it so much one Roger Davis took the Heyes role.

Yes! I haven't seen them since my teens either and they are still as good as I remember. Have taken the precaution of putting them on series linkBlush. Never know when you might need cheering up with half an hour of Ben Murphy.

Rafanderpants · 11/08/2014 17:42

I used to love Pete Duel.

why did he kill himself? didn't know that.

I remember it used to be on BBC 1 on a Saturday afternoon just before Pop Quiz. loved it.

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 11/08/2014 17:44

It was because his girlfriend ended their relationship. I think he shot himself.

I have watched a few, and had it on series link, but as much as I was looking forward to watching them, simply haven't had the time.

Rafanderpants · 11/08/2014 17:49

wow! it wasn't as if he didn't have a long queue of girls waiting to take her place!

Ben Murphy later appeared in Dr Quinn Medicine woman, but erm....cant say he aged well.

Dfg15 · 11/08/2014 20:55

As far as I knew his girlfriend - Dianne Ray - was in the house with him when he did it, she was in the bedroom, heard the shot and found him dead. I've never read that she had finished their relationship. It was a long time ago though, so i suppose stories and rumours change over all that time.

Sad Can't find it on Catch up.

When is it on so I can watch this coming week's episode 'live' as it were ?

Dfg15 · 13/08/2014 19:00

Its on twice a day - ITV4 at 11. 35 and 17.55 - two different episodes each day. The Pete Duel ones have finished now, Roger Davis is playing Heyes.

Thanks Dfg - that's disappointing - I'd have liked to have seen the Pete Dual ones, but thanks for the info.

Dfg15 · 13/08/2014 22:24

I'm still watching so I can letch at Ben but it's not the same without Pete

This used to be one of the programmes we sat down and watched as a family; my late Dad loved it. I can remember being gutted about Pete Duel. Wasn't the actor who took over from him, the guy who did the original voice over intro?

Dfg15 · 17/08/2014 18:11

Yes Roger Davis - they changed the intro bit after Pete died and Ben was listed first and there was a different voice over
