did anyone watch last night watching honey and billy deal with the possibilty that their dd has downs syndrome, was totally heart breaking to watch hope they both deal with it and manage to stay together and support each other

such a topical story line

oh bum - I opened this thread and haven't seen that episode yet.
I have been recording it on Sky Planner for ages and last night had only just watched the one where Stacey had her abortion. That was a moving one. I still keep hoping that she'll tell Bradley that she didn't go through with it.

I watched it and felt terribly sad then less so....
My friend's baby was born with Down's and I guess I feel like I've gone through the process a bit now (alongside her but obviously nothing remotely like to the same extent)I felt the reining in of all the hopes you have at their birth as you have to reframe some ambitions but now it is genuinely just a pleasure to be with him. He's absolutely beautiful, an almost ethereal looking child and knowing him has completely re-educated me, I don't think in the way I did before I met him. Don't think I understood before, understand lots more now.

its hard to understand how you would feel until your in that stuation

got to be honest, my husband and I are lucky enough to find it very hard to relate to alot of the down syndrome story on EE. For a less sensational idea of how it feels to be a parent to a baby who has down syndrome look up 'welcome to Holland' - sorry dont have a copy on computer to paste in.
Welshmum - i am delighted that your new little friend and his family are having such a positive effect as to re-educate you. My family were very much hoping that EE would have such a positive effect, but alas, from my point of view it has been pretty much negative so far, apart from the Billy/Phil dialogue.
It is our second son who has down syndrome and though i say it myself he is a cutie and we hope that those whom we meet as we go about our day to day stuff also see what a gorgeous, cheeky fellow he is and basicaly how similar he is to his brother (only 13months older) who is apparently normal - though there are days i would dispute this - only joking.
Mad4girls - you are absolutely right, it is very difficult to know howw you would feel in such a situation until you are in it, and everyones experiences are going to be different and warrant a different response, all I would say is that they certainly are not all as sad and negative as those portrayed on EE

I think Honey will turn aound and love the baby and all the positives will be shown.
The actress said how honoured she felt to be able to play this role and hoped it would be handled properly
