Roger is a bit crap at challenging calls.

Nick K has pulled a set back !

So has Cornet - and she is bookies face to win.

Game on !

Wasn't quite as bad as the infamous Safin one, but he didn't really need it even if it was the wrong call.

DramaAlpaca · 28/06/2014 18:54

Allez, Cornet!

I'm fed up with Fed so I'm watching Serena. She does not look a bit happy Grin

Raahh · 28/06/2014 18:55

MrsV re 'why i like Rafa'.

I think Rafa is lovely.

He's a fantastic player- definitely GOAT potentially- although there are stats that put Fed ahead of him. He never gives up- he gives it everything when he plays. he certainly isn't one for throwing a set because he's a bit tired Monfils
He's a lovely bloke. He never makes excuses for losses- it's always everyone else who harks on.
I was always a massive Edberg fan- yet the two couldn't be more different in playing style.

He never loses his temper, or smashes racquetsWink

Supporting a player isn't all about looks, I guess, though I think he's quite cute.
murray wouldn't have any fans based on look

That said, I do like the some of the bad 'uns- mac was always entertaining (crap commentator), and I do like watching Gulbis, and like that he speaks his mind sometimes.

Hang on, we might have a match.

rhubarbcrumbleplease · 28/06/2014 18:57

I love the fact that all the other players have ex pro coaches & Rafa has Uncle Toni.
Tsonga looks like a nice guy too.

Raahh · 28/06/2014 19:01

rhubarb- we mused earlier in the year, when Rafa wasn't quite himself, that maybe he has out grown Uncle Toni, and wasn't sure how to deal with it. Maybe he needed someone else to come along, with fresh eyes, and tweak his serve etc. Would be hard to sack your Uncle.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 28/06/2014 19:01

I'd have to have Fed as my GOAT, but I do like Rafa a lot too. I love the rivalry that they've had over the past 10 years.

Itsfab · 28/06/2014 19:01

GOAT?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 28/06/2014 19:02

Giraldo appears to have finished his warm up and has now started playing. Grin

DramaAlpaca · 28/06/2014 19:02

Hear, hear Raahh. I couldn't have put it better myself.

Ah! Lightbulb moment! I was just going to ask what GOAT means, but I've worked it out now from the context of Raaah's post.

For me, Fed could only be the GOAT if he played Rafa in the final of Roland Garros & won. To be the GOAT in my opinion you need to win the slams by beating the best of the best, and Fed only won RG in 2009 because that was the year Rafa lost early & Fed beat Soderling, who was not even a top twenty player.

Rafa has 13 slams to Fed's 17, and Rafa is 5 years younger, so he may well win even more.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 28/06/2014 19:03

Greatest of all time, or at least I hope it is.

MrsVamos · 28/06/2014 19:04

Why I Love Rafa.

We should do a book !

I hope Rafa can play long enough to beat Rogers stats.

Serena has the right hump. Allez Cornet !

Someone asked on the last thread whether line judges travel to different tournaments the way the umpires do. We have our answer - Martina Navratilova has just pointed out that one of the line judges in the Serena match is the woman Serena abused at the US Open a few years ago. I thought I'd spotted her a few days ago, but wasn't sure. She just made a call which Serena challenged.

MrsVamos · 28/06/2014 19:06

Ahem.

Rafa has 14 Slams.

OP posts:
Provencalroseparadox · 28/06/2014 19:08

A uni friend's mum was a professional umpire. She also did line judging sometimes and she definitely travelled around

MrsVamos · 28/06/2014 19:11

Drama

I have always said that about RG 2009, but my DH argues that players can only play who is playing at the time.

I am right, as are you. Grin

Was gutted for Rafa at the Aussie, to have made it 15 total slams. Stan would never have beaten him 'on a good day'.

I would just love for Rafa to go beyond 17. I think most I would love him to do RG, to make it 10.

Amazing.

We are definitely right, MrsV Grin

Shame they don't let women commentate on the mens matches.

I like Martina.

And Sam. Bit of a girl crush on her. I think its her voice. Blush

I'm glad Halep and Bouchard are doing well.

I like Martina's commentary. Can't say the same for that idiot Simon Reed. He sets my teeth on edge.

Allez, Alize!
