Another warning!

Stop reading if you don't know how it ends!!

So now I can talk.

The very last episode was aired in the US whilst we were over there at Easter and my DDs watched it but kept it to themselves saying 'you won't believe it it's awful'. But I resisted any googling and have been watchig it as it airs here.

So not last week but the week before - they gave it away and now I'm so angry I can hardly be bothered to watch the rest! It's so so wrong after all this time of waiting to meet the mother, to then do that!

Am I the only person on MN who is still watching HIMYM and am I the only one who feels cheated out of 8 years of waiting?

My sister told me about the ending but honestly continue watching it. Even though I know what happened I balled my eyes out during it.

Watch it all, I def recommend continuing the show.

Well I know I'm going to watch it really of course.

But why would they do that? What were the writers on? Wait 8 years to meet the eponymous character - then kill her?? So wrong

I have actually googled ahead and looked at the US critics write ups - mostly the come out with a thumbs down.

I suppose they were looking for the symmetry of the first episode - with Ted and Robin and the blue horn etc. but I wished they hadn't

I guessed from the episode where Ted and the missus went back to the hotel the wedding was in, she said something about everyones daughter wanting their Mum to be there on the big day and whatever way he looked at her I just knew something was going to happen, I don't think this season is that good, I'm just plodding along with it because I've watched it for years

I have seen the last episode, and It really really annoyed me! ruined it all for me! the whole 8 series were just pointless!

mmack · 25/06/2014 21:26

I will probably miss the last episode because of the World Cup and because the stupid Robin/Barney wedding is annoying me so will someone tell me how she dies?

mineallmine · 25/06/2014 23:36

What's HIMYM?

mineallmine · 25/06/2014 23:39

Just figured it out!

PeppermintInfusion · 26/06/2014 23:18

This season is ridiculous and tonight's episode had absolutely nothing to add!

Ellenora5 · 26/06/2014 23:59

Oh it was awful tonight Peppermint, not one laugh at all, just stupid, it's very annoying

EurotrashGirl · 27/06/2014 00:06

I read an interview with Josh Radnor where we said that the ending of the series (the mother dying) was planned from the very beginning of the series.

cookiefiend · 27/06/2014 00:30

The last series has been terrible- and the one before that. I often think in the UK we end a series too soon, whilst it us still really good. On reflection after watching them flog himym to death perhaps it's nit such a bad thing. A whole season about one weekend??? One of the cast members missing more than half the episodes and filming his bit separately?? And the monumentally stupid ending. Seriously? It ruined the whole show.

DustBunnyFarmer · 27/06/2014 06:54

In the US, once a show has a certain number of series/seasons, it can be syndicated - i.e. Sold on as a job lot to other channels to be shown as repeats. This makes the originating network/channel a lot of money, hence them being so keen to flog a dead horse and shows limping on way past when they've peaked.

DustBunnyFarmer · 27/06/2014 06:55

IIRC, the required threshold is 7 seasons.

Oodlives · 27/06/2014 07:10

I'm still watching but guessed the end a while ago. This season is very much dragging on and I'm only watching now so I can get to the end:(

Isthiscorrect · 27/06/2014 07:18

I don't know about everyone else but I felt all along she was dead., all the time Ted was talking to the kids. Just the fact he always talked about her in the past and never made reference to anything about her in the current tense.
But yes the last season was pants.

BeckAndCall · 27/06/2014 08:01

I can see that now, isthiscorrect, I'd never considered it before - so that would support Josh Radnor's assertion that it was always planned.

And it would also mean that the final twist - which I won't mention as it's not shown here yet or obvious form the show yet - was also planned - bringing the entire series full circle.

It takes some brave story boarding on the part of the series developers to plan that much detail 8 years out.

diddl · 27/06/2014 08:28

I always thought it was obvious that she's dead tbh.

PeppermintInfusion · 27/06/2014 08:42

I always wondered how much they have planned it as in the frequent flashbacks they look significantly younger, especially Lilly (also get frequently changing hairstyles).

NuggetofPurestGreen · 27/06/2014 18:31

I suspected she was dead all along but knew from the episode where Ted gives the 45 days speech.

I hate the ending. It's like the mother's only point was to give him kids cos Robin couldn't/wouldn't.
