Anyone watching this on BBC4? So far they've shown 2/4. It's yet another missing person police thing and has copied the plot from The Killing without the politicians. Episode 2 was better than 1, mainly because I couldn't believe a parent would drop a 13 year old off at her friend's rather than her grannies for dinner at the last moment just because she didn't fancy what was for dinner without clearing it with granny and the friend's parents.
The parents seem to overact a bit but there's not much on at the moment and it's OK.I like the kid brother and I usually hate child actors, hate his "haircut" though.

WEll it does reflect real life in that often of course the ending isn't known.

BUT SOMEBODY WROTE IT SO IT'S NOT REAL & THEY WERE JUST TOO LAZY TO DECIDE WHO THEY WANTED THE CULPRIT TO BE.

Aaahhh!
Relax!

BOFster · 25/06/2014 08:28

Exactly. It looked like a drama, it talked like a drama, it had clues like a drama...so bloody finish it like a drama. It's not an unreasonable expectation! I feel cheated

diddl · 25/06/2014 08:32

We were to assume that she was dead, I suppose?

BOFster · 25/06/2014 08:36

Apart from anything else, it makes the Garda look incompetent- it didn't occur to them to interview the dog walker? Nor to bother tracing any white vans in the area's CCTV footage? Gah. I spent weeks not googling as I didn't want to spoil the ending for myself- next time I will make sure I google ^whatever+finale+shit* to save myself disappointment.

mumofthemonsters808 · 25/06/2014 10:31

Has it actually finished ?, I thought last nights episode was the last one. A very strange ending, well not actually an ending, very disappointed.

lucysnowe · 25/06/2014 10:33

Interesting interview with the producer here:

Juat wasted 4 hours on this. So frustrating.

Vagndidit · 27/06/2014 22:19

Just finished the last episode hoping for some answers or resolution. Bah. Utter shite. I want my 4 hours back.

Vintagejazz · 30/06/2014 12:33

This was shown in Ireland a few months ago and left viewers deeply unimpressed.
Yes, people disappear and are never found in RL. But this programme was presented and dressed up as a Lewis style whodunit and then just changed course in the last ten minutes. Like most people, I felt totally cheated.
If they had made it clear, from the start, that it was a drama about the knock on effects of an unexplained disappearance, from the viewpoints of several different people, I would have watched it with a different set of expectations.

2rebecca · 30/06/2014 22:45

Crap ending. If you're going to write a story give it a good ending, endings are important. Non-endings just make you feel you've wasted your time and the author was too idle to pull things together and just stopped writing. Too many good stories have rubbish endings. I worry Game of Thrones won't have a proper ending and will go the way of Lost and other series where the writer just makes it up as he goes along and runs out of ideas.
If the writer wanted to write about missing persons they should have done a documentary. I wouldn't have watched it as I like stories WITH ENDINGS.

What a crock this turned out to be. Apart from the non -end end, how did the prisoner who topped himself know about the room/ mermaids?

2rebecca · 30/06/2014 23:05

Who knows.
When I used to write stories at school I always found endings the hard bit and sometimes annoyed teachers by opting for the "and then I woke up and it had all been a dream" cop out. You expect better from professional writers.

diddl · 01/07/2014 07:13

"how did the prisoner who topped himself know about the room/ mermaids?"

Because also in prison was the guy who stole the phone.

I guess he'd scrolled through?

Bit of a stretch though that he remembered the stuff & whose phone it was iyswim.

sheldonesque · 01/07/2014 12:42

I want my four hours back and my bodyweight in maltesers as compensation for there not being an ending.

Proper, proper miffed.

SavoyCabbage · 01/07/2014 12:56

So annoyed! I wish I'd never watched any of it.

Who was the lad with the pink hair?

2rebecca · 01/07/2014 18:16

A relative of one of the writers they put in for no good reason?

OP posts:
diddl · 01/07/2014 21:13

Was he her boyfriend?
Or just a friend?
And then he was seen with her friend whose house she diudn't go tho iyswim.
Was it to make us suspect him/them?

2rebecca · 01/07/2014 23:28

The friend was always strangely unhelpful for a supposedly good friend. I thought the series implied more than she was letting on. But as the writers couldn't be bothered to explain what that was all about I can't be bothered to make up an ending for them.

NadiaWadia · 03/07/2014 00:13

What????!!!! Is that it??? Just watched last episode. There were all the daft plot points over the last couple of episodes but I thought I'd least we'd eventually get to find out what happened to Amber. How annoying. Back to writing school for some people, I think.

Unless there's going to be another series?

SavoyCabbage · 03/07/2014 04:56

No Nadia because they did it on purpose as sometimes in real life people disappear but are never found!

It was all just so pointless. With the unhelpful friend, the phone, the pink hair bloke. Ridiculous. They might as well have had 'and I woke up and it was all a dream'.

SwiftRelease · 03/07/2014 09:57

Was waiting for the next episode, there isn't one, that was it?! Was a truly appalling substandard show. Copy of much better versions. What a waste of time....is Irish telly always that awful copycat?

clangermum · 06/07/2014 13:31

I watched the first two episodes and was going to finish on I player but it has gone now. Was there absolutely no resolution then? Last bit I saw was phone going down drain I think. Did they even come up with a theory? Why did someone think she was dead?

Sounds as though I didn't miss much....

SavoyCabbage · 06/07/2014 14:05

None.

The third episode was all about the missing phone which was eventually dropped down a drain.

In the last one there was shifty looks from the friend and the dad asked a man on the beach if he remembered amber as he had asked her about her phone an he said. Not really. Thrilling it was.

Then the dad thought she had been trafficked but.....she hadn't.

Then you saw her getting off the train on the day she went missing and walking away.

clangermum · 06/07/2014 15:08

So really a re-hash of stuff before, other than the being trafficked idea
