Is Broadchurch worth watching?

Broadchurch is about to start being shown here in NZ (we are always about a year late!), and I just wondered if people thought it was worth watching? They've been showing constant adverts for it here and it looks to have a pretty good cast, but just wondered if it lived up to the hype? I am also worried it is going to be a bit too harrowing - I am pregnant with dc4 so feeling a bit hormonal Grin, am I likely to just spend the whole time sobbing? Don't think DH will be too impressed if I do...

but yes you will need tissues

Doshusallie · 08/05/2014 17:49

It's really good. You should Deffo watch it.

Bobtailstrikesagain · 08/05/2014 17:49

Yes, definitely. It was gripping right until the last episode.

eltsihT · 08/05/2014 17:50

My dh and I watched it live, we normally record and delete most stuff but really enjoyed broad church

CoventryUniversityNetballTeam · 08/05/2014 19:07

It was the best drama series I have watched in a long long time. It's fantastic, give it a go you won't be disappointed Smile

Wishfulmakeupping · 08/05/2014 19:08

Yes really good drama and great cast. I want OH to watch it and catch up so we can watch the new series together

Bowlersarm · 08/05/2014 19:09

Yes. Unlike anything else, I think.

SconeRhymesWithGone · 08/05/2014 19:11

It's really good; I began to plan my evenings around it because did not want any delay in watching it. We had it in the US after it finished in the UK so I had to be careful on MN so as not to run across a spoiler.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 08/05/2014 19:11

Yes yes.

A million times yes.

Do you have recording facility? I found it so so gripping the wait was hard. If I could do it again id bulk up a good few weeks so I could watch a couple at a time.

Ronmione · 08/05/2014 19:51

Going to go against the grain and say no. It's dull and quite slow. Olivia Coleman is good though

Aciderwouldbenice · 08/05/2014 19:54

I loved it, I taped the first 3, watched them one after each other then the anticipation of 2 days before the last one- it was great. But yes, have tissues.

Doristhecamel · 09/05/2014 08:00

Yes definitely. It won loads of awards.
They are making a 2nd one apparently but I just cannot see that it can possibly live upto the first one.

Thus is a definite must see.

WaitMonkey · 09/05/2014 09:26

As long as you don't know the ending.

BringMeTea · 09/05/2014 13:10

Well. I suppose if you haven't read the threads on MN about it then yes definitely! Personally there was so much intelligent discourse and theory that the actual denouement was very very disappointing! Seriously, MNers should write a screenplay for a whodunnit.

dontevenblink · 09/05/2014 23:01

Thanks for the replies :) I think I'll give it a go on Sunday then, but will be prepared with tissues!
BringMeTea and WaitMonkey I have purposefully avoided the threads on Mumsnet so as to not know what happens, so all good. I love the idea of a Mumsnet whodunnit screenplay Grin
