Great knowledge! Thank you!

StickyProblem · 02/05/2014 17:30

Thanks!
I hope it's as good as Summer Heights... and better than Ja'mie Private School Girl.

wildernessagogo · 04/05/2014 11:01

I was so disgusted by this. Shame on you BBC.

Takes us back 40 years to the black and white minstrels 'blacking up'. All the other Tongans in the series are played by Tongans but main character is a white Australian 'comedian'. And don't get me started in the stereotyping.

Deeply offensive IMO but I'd be interested to hear what others think.

sallysparrow157 · 04/05/2014 11:06

In his last series all the other characters were public schoolgirls and the main character was a 39 yr old Australian male comedian dressed up as a schoolgirl. This is the style of his comedy. You could argue that him only dressing up as white characters is more racist than him playing characters of various races

dunsborough · 04/05/2014 11:08

Puck you miss, puck you.

Grin great show!

Helpys · 04/05/2014 11:09

I'm with you wilderness

NotALondoner · 04/05/2014 11:19

I'm on the fence. It was really shocking, yet strangely compelling. Bit like Little Britain, some of which I love, some of which I hate.

NotALondoner · 04/05/2014 11:26

Although having said that, I've only watched one episode. Has anyone watched more than the first?

gaggiagirl · 04/05/2014 11:29

Can't wait!
Jonah is his finest character.
Puck you miss! Haaaaaaaaaaa!

SavoyCabbage · 04/05/2014 11:30

It's just awful.

Mrsjayy · 04/05/2014 11:35

I loved summer heights high it was great Ja'mie was awful made me feel squeemish for some reason might give this a go but i think he peaked with SHH really

tabvase · 04/05/2014 11:48

SHH was his finest work IMO.

Would we be offended by a black comedian playing a white character and throwing in a few stereotypes for humour? I know I wouldn't, but I'm interested to hear what others think.

GatoradeMeBitch · 04/05/2014 13:08

If you found 'Jonah' shocking, do not watch 'Angry Boys'!

I really enjoyed it. I'll definitely buy the blu-ray when it comes out. Not quite as good as SHH, but I have high hopes for the Mr G series.

Lilley really captures the personality of a horrible teenager, I'm impressed that he always manages to make Jonah sympathetic.

GatoradeMeBitch · 04/05/2014 13:09

gaggiagirl If you want to watch the whole series get cracking! It will be off iplayer at 9pm tonight.

gaggiagirl · 04/05/2014 14:22

Thank you gatorade im onto it now. I'm so buying the DVD when it comes out!

AmIthatSpringy · 04/05/2014 17:21

Oh, I so hope I haven't missed this.

Jonah was my favourite character in SHH.

Put your balls on the floor

I remember feeling very inappropriate when Jonah was walking around with his top off.

Then I remembered Chris Lilley is a man, and I felt a bit better Grin

ladypete · 04/05/2014 21:31

Tbh I don't find it offensive at all, coming from an mixed race heritage myself.

This is his style of humor and tbh I find it funny. Was there uproar over the "I'm a laaaaady" character in little Britain in regards to LGBT stereotypes? Was it as offensive for him to stereotype a middle class white teenaged female in "Ja'Mie Private School Girl"?

I am aware that some people might have held the views above and this isn't aimed at a particular poster, but on the whole it does makes me a bit Hmm and Sad when racism is pointed out most.

.. runs to catch up on the episode I've missed Grin ...

ToysRLuv · 04/05/2014 23:02

I liked it! The end of the series actually made me LOL and I NEVER do Grin

AmIthatSpringy · 04/05/2014 23:24

Just watched episode 1 and I liked it

I loved the teacher saying "no fucking swearing in the classroom"

I'd actually forgotten how touching the character was, I remember the last SHH I was in tears when he went back to Gumnuts to do his reading piece.

I like Sparazus House Smile

Lighthousekeeping · 05/05/2014 15:36

I can't wait. I really liked J'aime it just went on too long.

AmIthatSpringy · 05/05/2014 20:41

I'm disappointed that I only managed two episodes then fell asleep. In will have to wait for the rest now

Id forgotten about his "-love" of rangas.
