Boxed set recommendations to watch with kids

We quite like to have a boxed set of action or comedy to watch with the children (DD 15 and DS12) but are running out of suitable material. Just wondered if anyone has any other ideas.

Things they've loved:

Life on Mars
Ashes to Ashes
Hustle
Fawlty Towers
Blackadder (series 2 and 4 went down best)

Less successful:

Spooks. DD likes it but DS finds all the political intrigue a bit to much. Have to keep stopping to explain plot to him
Yes Prime Minister. Again have to explain a lot.
Cold Feet. Tried a few episodes. Had forgotten quite just how much sex there was in it. Again had to explain a few things to DS.

Wondered about Only Fools and Horses or One Foot in the Grave. Have they dated a bit?
Any other ideas?

Friday Night Lights?

Hmmm - don't know about your DD but 11 year old DS has loved Merlin, Atlantis and The Musketeers (plenty of eye candy for your DD?? )

DS is keen to watch Buffy at some point but he's a bit young yet, I think.

He has loved The A Team and Knight Rider - spot the 80s mum!

CallingAllEngels · 09/04/2014 21:17

Merlin.
Doctor Who.

TriggersBroom · 09/04/2014 22:13

Thanks for the suggestions.

We've done Doctor Who.

Not sure I could stomach The A Team and Knight Rider. I'm also an 80s mum but they weren't a high point for me. Will have a look at the others. Smile

Oh, I'm guessing you must have done this one already but DS loves Sherlock.

And Endeavour is a 12 as well - judging by what has gone down well, they might prefer that sort of thing to the fantasy/legend stuff I've suggested.

phantomnamechanger · 10/04/2014 18:58

ours love dads army and the old Morecambe and wise shows!, but not to everyones taste I guess

We like a good murder here- morse, Lewis, endeavour, foyles war poirot.

We had a really great laugh with the 2 Ronnie's as well. It's lasted really well, though like most things it's rather ruder than I recall!

2whippetsnobed · 11/04/2014 22:01

My dd aged 10 absolutely loves "Allo allo"

TriggersBroom · 12/04/2014 00:27

Thanks again for the suggestions. Have done Sherlock already. Absolutely love Morse, Lewis etc but wanted programmes under an hour we could watch occasionally on a school night.

Will have a ponder over some of the others, but sorry whippets, it's over my dead body wrt Allo Allo.

Futurama, Buffy, MASH perhaps? Blackadder?

ImAThrillseekerHoney · 12/04/2014 00:34

Oops, missed Blackadder in your OP. How about The Young Ones? Outnumbered?

MrsLel - what on earth did you suggest that made MNHQ hide your post until they could have a look at it?! Confused

This seems the most innocent thread possible at the moment!

ThreeLannistersOneTargaryen · 13/04/2014 19:57

DS1 (14) has enjoyed the following:

Red Dwarf
Sherlock
Blackadder
Gavin & Stacey
How I met your mother
The big bang theory
Firefly

They have all (14, 12, 9, 9) enjoyed:
Doctor Who
Merlin

trolleycoin · 16/04/2014 21:06

IT crowd definitely and Big Bang Theory

CQ · 16/04/2014 21:13

Robin Hood - the TV series that was on a few years ago. My two loved it and still watch it now and then.

Richard Armitage as Guy of Gisbourne made it vair pleasing for me to watch too Grin
