Anyone been watching The Plantagenets on BBC2?

Good stuff.

I know quite a bit about them as im into history (thanks completely to Horrible Histories) so knew some stuff but theres always something new to learn.

fascinating stuff, quite graphic when hes talking about torture and how people were killed and what was dome with their bodies and stuff, but its a good programme.

hope he does the Tudors next, all Tudor progs are always about Henry 8th, itd be good to learn more about Henry 7th, and Liz 1.

he seems to find unheard of stuff.

I agree it's been really interesting. I didn't even know where the name Plantagenet came from.

no I didn't know where the name came from either. weird isn't it? seemed like a nickname that stuck with historians.

I love seeing the old manuscripts with the beautiful writing.

It's very good but the presenter is a bit disappointing. I can't put my finger on why but he's not engaging me.

I was watching How to Get Ahead earlier. It's fab and the presenter is brilliant

Plantagenet means 'sprig of broom', which was apparently worn as a crest by Geoffrey, Count of Anjou, husband of the Empress Matilda and father of Henry II.

I watched episode 1 but fell asleep. Is episode 2 worth catching up with on i-player? I know a bit about the Plantagenets already, which is one reason why ep 1 was not gripping me. Fascinating period of English history.

For anybody else interested, The Lion in Winter would be a good film to watch.

I'm always in awe of how news got to people and how messages were relayed. Must have taken weeks. Must have been so much time hanging around waiting to make decisions.

episode 2 was good, he was talking about the Robert the Bruce and William Wallace era.

I love these History programs and am enjoying this one as a part of history I'm not so familiar with. Does anyone know when the 3rd part is being aired as can't see it in the TV mag?

Ds1 (10) and I are watching this and enjoying it.

Got to agree with Tally, there's something missing.I was so bored by the presenter that I lost all interest. It's one of the periods I'm most interested in, but it just didn't do it for me.

its repeated on BBC2 Saturday and then the 3rd parts next Monday at 9pm BBC2.

Loved the first one - Eleanor of Aquitaine is my favourite queen. I love the Jean Plaidy Plantagent books not sure how perfectly historically accurate they are but very enjoyable.

I saw the first one last week and will prob watch the second one in iplayer tonight. I really enjoyed it but then I am a bit of a spod.

I'm not usually into medieval history, more of an 18th century onwards type of girl, but I watched this and enjoyed it. Looking forward to Richard III next week now.

BBC2 tonight theres a prog about the greatest knight Sir William marshall who was mentioned in the Plantagenets prog.

I really enjoyed it and (whisper) liked the presenter a lot - he seems to have no vanity, unusual for a tv historian! Maybe he's a bit 'grey' but he is really bringing it alive for me. The stories and personalities are so vivid.
