Heavenly child!

I was quite pleased they didn't make the first episode all about the birth - it's boring when programmes do that. Not that Archdeacon-as-birthing-partner wasn't funny though.

I'd love to know what he did with the "drugs money" donation.

DioneTheDiabolist · 25/03/2014 12:14

It's back? Where? When?

FairPhyllis · 25/03/2014 12:21

It was on last night. BBC 2 at 10. Should be on iPlayer by now.

I really like the pair of enforcers from the diocese - I haven't seen the actresses before. Just goes to show you can find excellent comic actresses if you can be bothered to write the parts for them.

The short one is in lots if things inc The Thick of It. Loved it, so pleased so much of the supporting cast is back.

AmandinePoulain · 25/03/2014 20:03

Fair they were both in Getting On with Jo Brand. If you can find it anywhere it's well worth a watch - it's the most realistic programme about the nhs I've ever seen Grin

DioneTheDiabolist · 25/03/2014 20:06

Thanks Fair.

NormHonal · 25/03/2014 20:07

I didn't know it was back!

Right, I'm off to hit iplayer... Thanks OP.

Theknacktoflying · 25/03/2014 20:07

Just fab - funny and quality

MalcolmTuckersMistress · 25/03/2014 20:10

Oh balls I TOTALLY forgot this was on! Grrrrr. I love it I adore both Hollander and Colman.

Misslaughalot · 25/03/2014 20:20

The enforcers from the diocese are Joanna Scanlan and Vicki Pepperdine and they both wrote Getting On as well as starring in it (along with Jo Brand). They wrote those parts for themselves, and yes, it's well worth hunting out!

Olivia Colman does birth scenes very well, her Peep Show one is fantastic too. There's a particular grunt that she does that DP was so hoping to hear when I was giving birth but I had other things on my mind

FairPhyllis · 25/03/2014 21:01

Ahhhhhh I missed a lot of TV due to living abroad the last few years. Some quality things have obviously slipped through the net adds Getting On to mental Netflix queue

I love the relationship between Adam and Colin. Colin begging to be Katie's godfather was so funny especially when he said he'd kick seven shades of shit out of anybody who tried to shag her before she was 16.

sybilfaulty · 25/03/2014 21:09

Such a top programme. The last episode of series one when Adam had a crisis of faith and was then summoned to the dying man's bedside will stay with me forever.

Last night was great fun. I love Rev. .

Rollermum · 25/03/2014 21:33

It was great - I love Rev. Apparently they do lots of research with real clergy. Also in the Guardian interview I saw Olivia Colman said she assumed her character is an atheist.

My favourite episode is the one where the newer youth church take over.

FairPhyllis · 25/03/2014 21:45

I have a couple of friends who are vicars and it's like watching a fly on the wall documentary about the CofE. It's so beautifully observed. Down to things like the horrible vicarage and the overflowing parish office, and smuggling food and booze into a retreat, and people constantly at the door. I hope the Diocese of London doesn't actually hold ALL its meetings in taxis though, must be bloody expensive.

I like the episode where Colin gets baptised, and the one where Nigel is trying to get accepted for priest training and the Archdeacon is trying to become a bishop.

it took me a while to get into it but I like it now

oc was fab last night
I love the archdeacon and his gloves

MalcolmTuckersMistress · 26/03/2014 08:08

Love it love it love it! Hilarious.

I'm so glad that they have managed to do another series because they're such busy and highly demanded actors!

slartybartfast · 26/03/2014 08:22

oh i missed it Sad

OnlyLovers · 30/03/2014 18:09

Oh, it's marvellous. Loved Colin giving the baby a pair of enormous £1.99 tracksuit bottoms from Sports Direct Grin.

Simon McBurney is possibly the highlight of a top-notch cast. I loved that scene last series when Adam bumped into him in a furniture shop with his partner. Excruciating.

SweetPenelope · 31/03/2014 16:21

I thought giving birth in the taxi with the archdeacon between her legs was just stupid and unrealistic.

Otherwise, I really like the show.

OnlyLovers · 01/04/2014 10:15

I agree about the taxi birth scene. Just seemed to be there to provoke shocked laughter. The usually brilliant Simon McBurney visibly didn't have his heart in it; probably because he was as aware as us that it wasn't realistic or even funny!

I do love it though. Loved the last series when she was dreading having all the other Christian ladies round because she thought it'd be boring tea and polite conversation, but in fact it turned into an almighty piss-up with drinking, dancing and shouting along to the music Grin

FairPhyllis · 02/04/2014 12:12

I didn't think this week's was so funny as it was more obviously an issue episode. I thought it was also fairly unrealistic in some ways - if you're married to a priest, like Alex is, you would know that marrying a gay couple was a much more serious issue in terms of church discipline than "parking on double yellows". She would have known that Adam could have lost his job and their home over it. And a gay regular churchgoer would have known that what the couple were asking Adam to do was putting him in an impossible situation. I don't think anybody would actually stage a blessing ambush like that.

I also think that Adoa is being really poorly written by comparison with all the other characters.

However I did really enjoy Roland Wise's motivational seminar.

invicta · 02/04/2014 23:01

I was amazed at the timing - gay marriage was only made legal a couple of days ago, so I thought it was impressive they had a sitcom including it so soon.

GreenShadow · 21/04/2014 22:53

Ahhhh, that was so sad. Anyone know when it's returning / Adam rises again?

2tired2bewitty · 21/04/2014 22:59

There's one more episode this series according to Wikipedia
