Oh we have been watching it too.

My grandfather was a fishmonger!

expatinscotland · 04/08/2006 21:21

LOVED it. wish they hadn't subtitled it, though. if i - a foreigner - can understand them, it's not that difficult.

i love their beautiful voices, their songs, their smiles and humour, the way they love the sea and their homeland, their outlook on life.

this is a bonnie place and i'm dead proud to be here, married to a Scotsman and have Scots children.

we went to Ireland, and tho we enjoyed it, everyone on the ferry boat whopped when the captain announced that our Scotland was in sight and just a few miles off.

we were happy to be home.

i'll never look at a cod the same way.

expatinscotland · 04/08/2006 21:23

it's dangerous. my dad worked offshore for many years and saw all kinds of accidents. he also fractured his skull once in an accident on a rig. it happens.

BettySpaghetti · 04/08/2006 21:23

DP has been raving about this -I've not really seen it as I'm usually tidying kitchen/running bath/sorting washing etc at that time.

ocd · 04/08/2006 21:23

i hadn't realised cod is such an ugly fish.

not had it here. we only get haddock.

i do love prawns, though. they're most tasty.

i'd no idea it was such work, tho.

hulababy · 04/08/2006 21:26

We watched it and enjoye dit too. Was fascinated by how hard their work is, and how little they seem to get paid relative to hard hard they work for such long hours at a time.

ocd · 04/08/2006 21:27

a quick google search shows that EVRERYONE loves it

expatinscotland · 04/08/2006 21:28

why do they subtitle scots, but not welsh? or english w/heavy regional dialects, like geordie or scouse?

i have to be honest, some people up here find that a bit prejudiced.

ocd · 04/08/2006 21:30

sometimes it was hard ot hear but yes generally you got he gist
ti wasnt that vital to knwo hat they said anwyay
there a htign abotu the sibtitling furore on bbc newswebsite

i like boats. they never make me sick. but i still wouldn't want to do that job.

Gillian76 · 04/08/2006 21:34

Heard their MSP on the radio today decrying the subtitling. Not necessary IMO

expatinscotland · 04/08/2006 21:35

as it was, the fishermen slowed their speech when they were being filmed.

bettythebuilder · 04/08/2006 21:49

Oh, yes - have loved this programme. Dd and I have learned a lot!
There's a museum about trawler fishing in Grimsby, that's really good as well.
(honestly, it's better than it sounds )

bettythebuilder · 04/08/2006 21:53

wrinklytum · 04/08/2006 22:02
