Can anyone give me a overview of Nashville series 1?

This is one of those things I kept thinking 'I wish I'd watched that' about when series one was on. I'd like to watch series 2 but don't have time to watch 1 first. So- what happened please?!

Oh, gosh. Much too much to summarise in a few lines.

I'd start with Series 1 first.

Ah that's what I suspected! Where can I catch up on one? Maybe I can record two ready to watch later in the year!

There are lots of great supporting characters but the heart of it is the two female singers - Rayna James and Juliette Barnes. Rayna is struggling with her marriage, her attraction to her alcoholic ex, her stuttering career and making sense of her relationship with her father whilst still trying to put forward this 'glamorous perfect wife and mother career woman' public face.

Juliette is up and coming, struggling to get control of her career and avoid being forced into a stereotyped pop-country poppet role without ruining sales plus dealing with her poverty stricken past and her addicted mum. She has developed a really hard manipulative shell and you see her mature and show a bit of vulnerability throughout the series and you find yourself liking her no matter what sort of bitchiness happens.

I also liked how the two women hated each other at first but develop a professional appreciation of each other's talents even if they never are quite friends. They are far too competitive.

Plus there are lots of other great characters with their stories and some cracking music. It's well worth a watch.

Good summary. I am almost finished the second series and really enjoying it. You'd be a bit lost without having seen series 1, cause the characters really have a history, if you see what I mean.

It's a great show but v hard to summarise. sisterofmercy is spot on - worth saying that Rayna is the current queen of country music and Juliette is the Young Pretender, hugely popular (including with Rayna's own tween daughters, much to her annoyance) but struggling with the 'too much too soon' fame syndrome. Connie Britton, who produces as well as stars as Rayna, has said the show is not about their 'rivalry', and indeed they often go weeks without being in a scene together! There's a very interesting set up in the middle of season 2 which may see a big change in the nature of their professional relationship.

There's a host of supporting characters, probably most interesting of which are Scarlett and Gunnar, a singer-songwriter duo with genuine chemistry (also both nail the Nashville accent despite being Australian and British respectively), Scarlett's ex Avery and Rayna's ex Deacon.

The music is awesome, esp in season one.

Lovefilm has the DVDs to rent and the show is available on iTunes for 22 quid in Standard Def. It's worth catching up on Season 1 if you can.

I bought a friend season 1 for Christmas.

When does season 2 start I really enjoyed season 1. Not sure I could summarize though. I watched it through the hazy fog of heavy pregnancy and newborn tiredness!

I bought both series on US iTunes cause I was too impatient to wait for it to come to UK TV.
