This promoting of the idea that SS want to steal babies makes me very uneasy...

I am not a massive subscriber of the money thing. However, it is an 'overall' industry which must be fed.

However, that doesn't mean social workers do not have targets or that they do not target certain groups. There doesn't need to be a link.

So does your friend find this work lucrative?

Given the number of solicitors firms that have now closed down because they can't make a profit doing legal aid work, I will be surprised if he/she says 'yes'.

Just had a quick look at some of the Justice for Linda stuff - the prevailing view seems to be 'all governments are corrupt'.

interestingly, one site claims that the LA which kidnapped her baby is operating at a £40,000,000 deficit. So what benefit is there to that LA to spend further money on kidnapping children?

They must be getting paid one hell of a bonus.

no she works incredibly long hours, weekends b ut she gets huge satisfaction from giving the right advice and keeping children out of care and with parents

And if is NOT the money as you now appear to be saying WHAT then is the motivation to target particular groups of people?

I haven't read the whole thread but did see the program.

I found it heart breaking. My conclusion is:

• the family court system needs to be reformed and information needs to be made public and people should be allowed to speak about their case
• parents should be allowed to appeal and if they have no money then they should get legal aid to enable them to appeal
• medical experts testifying in court should be forced to follow a course in advances statistics and not be allowed to testify unless they passed such a course
• one of the experts was 100% sure, wasn't that the same with Roy Meadows (if that was his name, the SIDS guy), statistically this is utter nonsense unless they witnessed the actual abuse
• these children which are being disputed should not be allowed to be adopted but only long-term fostering

Of course children needs to be protected, absolutely, but this also does enormous harm to all involved.

Adoptions already can be overturned IF the correct legal procedures have not been followed (or, in the case of a relinquished baby, the birth mother proves that she only consented through coercion/blackmail etc)

However, if all the correct procedures are followed, then it is irreversible. As it should be. Making adoption reversible would result in abusive parents launching court cases as well, and would cause massive instablity and harm to a multitude of children, of whom only a tiny percentage would be children who perhaps could have stayed with their birth parents safely.

@Spero - I dont think it's a motivation - it's more bad luck. People fall under their radar - they label them. Mothers have had children taken at birth for more little more than mental health issues. AND there is often no prior warning. Im sure you all saw the woman on This Morning that this happened to. She lost her child for quite a while before getting her back. She had no warning, no idea that they were going to take her child in the delivery suite. She'd failed to turn up for a course..............to cure her for a fear of spiders. She'd booked the course herself.

You do need to accept that, whatever the reason, and I don't know the reasons and nor do you - certain people get sucked into their world for very little sometimes.

So the Linda Lewis case is hardly one of cute babies being "stolen" to order, is it? (that word , stolen, dehumanises the children involved, IMO, They're people, not possessions.)

@Spero -Bonnie Lwis was snatched in 1998/9 - it was to cover up for medical negligence. The hospital that removed her appendix (wrongly) was for some reason without a licence to perform certain kinds of operation at the time. The court case would have broken the Trust.

So they went to the US and snatched a child on a false passport and without a pickup order and labelled the mother with Munchausens. The mother has been fighting for justice for 15 years.

Really? Mental ill health runs the gamut from that which is mild and does not affect your ability to parent, and that which is extremely serious and would make someone very unsafe round a child. There are many many motehrs in this country who have MH problems, and yet only a very small proportion of mothers with MH difficulties will lose their children. Serious cases

My 17 year old has MH issues. So does her birth mum. Neither of them are capable of looking after a child alone, and that is in part due to their mental and emotional health.

Thats where you can get lucky or unlucky. I dare say if you put the same person in two different LAs you might get different results.

Women do lose their children for having been in care all their lives or having sometimes mental health issues. Roll a die, pick a number.

It's not like randomly rolling a die!!!! If it was, a lot more children would be in care

er well actually a lot of children in care - 10,000 a year - I think thats a lot.

Do you know how many people have MH problems compared to that number? Clue - it's in the millions

And quite a lot of those 10,000 childrens cases won't have MH as a factor

Really? Whenever I am in court applying for an Emergency Protection Order is is quite hard work. These are not rubber stamped you know. They are seen as incredibly serious and in any event can operate for only a very limited time.

The only other way to 'snatch' a child without warning is for the police to use their powers of protection.

Are you absolutely sure you are being given all the facts of these cases?
