I can't fail to be surprised every time this is on at how much things have changed in 60isj years.

...Can anyone tell me why the Doctor's son stole some tablets from his bag... and what relevance this had ??

I'm confused as he later went on to develop Polio ... and don't recall him showing signs of the disease...

I assumed he was stealing pain killers as he was feeling ill. Was keeping quiet because he didn't want to spoil the wedding?

Amazed at the gorgeous wedding dress that Chummy managed 'run up' in a day. I know shes a skilled streamsess but still!

Also though chummy was altering a dress rather than from scratch ?

I thought the wedding took place a few months later, when the doctor's son had recovered. During that time Chummy also got her new home.

Just watched it. It was the spring. Vanessa was muttering something about Christmas turning to new year and then into spring.

I was fine up until the hyacinths then i sobbed we watched it last night dd2 had a little something in her eye apparently The Drs son was trying to medicate himself and not wanting to make a fuss and his dad is so busy he never notices him anyway ,

glad i came on here to clarify the dr's son's pill popping! I thought it was the pills he'd been taking that had made him ill. Couldn't understand why there was no reference made to them at the end.

Just watched it on iplayer. Do we think that's it for call the midwife now that the Covent has been demolished?

Very sweet and lovely and twee but I rather prefer the series that were on using stories from the books. The book stories were always so carefully chosen to illustrate how life was, a social history of Poplar. It came through well at first and even in the second series but I guess that's dive now .

Indith They have apparently exhausted all the suitable story lines from the books.

The pill thing confused me too. I did enjoy it but not as much as last year's episode.

was also confused by pills. wondered if there was something going on, then assumed it would come out that he was self medicating which masked symptoms. Was it him who shared a bottle of drink with the other boy who got it?

There are 8 new episodes due to be shown in 2014.

They've exhausted her books but apparently have a wealth of stories from other midwives of the time. I'm pleased about that. I much prefer that they continue to be based on fact rather than what some writer in an office imagines it was like.

I thought the doctor's son was stealing pills to make himself Ill so the wedding couldn't go ahead as he didn't want them to get married. Then, when his dad said he wanted him to be best man and go to the barbers together etc, he changed his mind. Couldn't work out how he suddenly had polio and the pills weren't mentioned. I'll go with the self medicating then

I got confused with the tablets thing too, didn't see the significance.
Maybe he was indeed trying to make himself ill to avoid the wedding or maybe he thought the tablets would make him better???

I suppose that in them days they didn't have the knowledge to have known a patient had taken substances/tablets so assumed it was polio or maybe it was polio all along & those tablets didn't help??
