I love it too. Bruce seems to offer insights into a totally different way of life without ever sounding disgusted/condescending/horrified/shocked or similar, which even the best of "travel" presenters sometimnes manage to do (yes, even the great Michael Palin, who has been known to "giggle nervously" when confronted with something out of the ordinary).

My only criticism is that the new series consists of only 3 programmes ..... I'm sure there were 6 before ?

The blood thing I can remember being taught about aged 9 or so - I think, in relation to the Masai. A great renewable food source !

i love this. he doesnt look down on people, which is rare in these shows, i love his genuine respect for other cultures and its a fascinating insight.

he just thorws himself wholeheartedly into it and earns their respect. i couldnt do half the stuff he does!

my dh watched the one where they did something unspeakable to bruce's penis and my dh went green!!

schneebly · 18/07/2006 15:59

OOOh what did they do to it?

2shoes · 18/07/2006 16:01

well they sort of tied it up, kind of pushing it inside him somehow? said it was a custom. anyway, he nearly passed out (bruce) as did my dh at the thought of it. I pmsl.

I adored the last series
What a cool guy, genuinely interested in living as other people do.
Really fascinating to see places where technology plays no part (bar the sub machine guns that is)
