I have stopped paying my TV licence, call me what you will, but in not paying on principle anymore!

i watched this youtube video of a woman and her partner being confronted in their own home by some man that works for the BBC in one way or another..... its just not right - having this turn up on your doorstep

PS on the plus, the video is hillariious at the and, and inspiring

It's sheer hypocrisy to use iplayer and not pay a licence fee.

BBC is worth every penny and is the envy of the world. I would be horrified to rely on commercially funded programming and news.

yes yes agreed

I wish I could do the same. I don't use state education and yet I have to pay for it.

the Bbc provides a place where children can watch television without being bombarded with adverts for junk.

It provides politically neutral news( I know it doesn't always get this exactly right, but at least you know you aren't watching the news as filtered though murdochs views)

It provides services for minority interests which might not be financially viable. For example religious programming, academic programming, radio services for welsh language speakers etc

It produces high quality drama which is sold world wide.

There is room for improvement, but I'm glad we have it.

There is nothing principled about refusing to pay, and then using a loophole to still watch the programmes. Either pay, or opt out completely. It's like boycotting Nestle, but still eating kit kats, so long as someone else buys them.

In Italy we have to pay a similar thing but the TV is crap its full of adverts and I refuse to pay it as I never watch as in NEVER watch the channels . They say its a Tv tax but it goes to the Italian equivalent of the BBc the latter which I do watch when I can on the i player ( payment)..... I am waiting for the knock on the door !
