Do the contestants on GBBO help each other?

Been watching Great Irish Bake Off and the contestants are always talking to each other and offering advice. I don't see this happening on GBBO, wonder if it just doesn't happen or isn't shown.

Really? I've never seen it on GBBO - we are going to need a former contestant or crew member to confirm!

Ps - where did you see the Irish version? Are you in Ireland? I quite want to watch it now

Is the Irish version any good? My mother was visiting recently and mentioned it, but as she is indescribably vague, despite religiously watching both Irish and British versions, she couldn't tell me anything at all about the Irish one, apart from the fact that Biddy White Lennon is Mary Berry...?

Certainly have never seen contestants help one another on GBBO, but it wouldn't amaze me to find Irish people rather more reluctant to be in a 'competition', even they obviously are.

It took me ages when I started working in Ireland after years in England to adjust to the fact that when I phoned an employee to ask them to do something, a lot more friendliness and chat was expected, rather than the brisk 'X, I need you to do Y by tomorrow, please' I had got used to in my English workplaces.

Oooo.... Irish Bake off?

Yep - found it on youtube.

That's my evening sorted.

THanks Helga.

I like that they help each other out. They do occasionally on gbbo and can often be seen looking at what others are doing though!

GIBO def not as good. The feedback's pretty basic and repetitive, there's only two bakes each week, and it's badly edited. That said, it gives me something to watch when I'm stuck under my 4mo Grin

I am in Ireland. Like Reiltin said, it's not great. I've never heard of either of the judges and the presenter is Anna Nolan (Was in one of the first series of BB, lesbian ex-nun). She's channelling Sue Perkins a lot. The hair, the outfits and the way she says stuff.

They only do 2 challenges a week despite the program being an hour long. Either a skill & technical or technical & show stopper.

It was just really obvious last episode - can't even attempt to spell what they has to bake but they were asking each other left right & centre.

I was watching the American version (The American Baking Competition) on youtube last night. In one ep, one contestant went over to another who was struggling and completely showed him how to make chou pastry.

V kind.
