Am watching HoC (Kevin Spacey version) but have never seen WW. If I buy the West Wing box set will I like it?

I've never seen either so I'd be interested to hear responses.

MardyBra · 28/09/2013 00:48

Yes.

PetiteRaleuse · 28/09/2013 01:01

Yes why?

I love uk politics but don't know much about us politics. I love the recency of HoC. Is WW still relevant? Yeah I know it is recent but tv series date very quickly...

Disclaimer: Am only a few episodes into HoC but I remember the Uk version.

Wll, the obvious similarity is that they're both set in Washington. They're both excellent dramas BUT very different. The WW is about a President and his staff, where you are largely sympathetic to the characters and their aims. It had drama, humour, pathos and can be thought provoking. It's occasionally schmaltzy, but I can forgive it that because the characters are so engaging and I want to do Josh Lyman.

HoC is more about plotting and intrigue.

HTH.

Thanks. :)

West Wing is excellent
I love Martin Sheen as President & his wife ( her out of Grease!)
But the best characters are his staff - josh lynam, CJ Cregg & the bloke with the beard

The early series of TWW are some of the best-written episodes of television you are likely to see.

It isn't cynical. At least, not very. I'm sure an idealised view of what White House politics are actually like but very worth watching.

PetiteRaleuse · 28/09/2013 08:09

Brilliant. Will try and get a copy. It was never on mainstream TV here so it's hard to find the box sets. I suppose Amazon will have it.

The west wing is outstanding TV. I'm re watching the whole thing at the moment.

AmandaCooper · 28/09/2013 08:15

The west wing is AWESOME! I watched 154 of the 156 episodes while I was breastfeeding newborn DS and I am saving the last two episodes to watch on my birthday as a treat!

PetiteRaleuse · 28/09/2013 09:44

It's ages since I bought and watched a box set. V expensive though even on ebay

I got my box set from play.com for £35. Best money I ever spent.

DP watched House of Cards and I didn't get into it at all, but we both love WW.

OldRoan · 28/09/2013 21:25

Just checked - west wing is on lovefilm instant, and lovefilm. You could try it on there first to see if you like it?

Vivacia · 28/09/2013 21:41

I've love them both, but think they're different so liking one wouldn't mean you'd like the other. I think the WW is dated now, but it was what sparked my interest in american politics.

PetiteRaleuse · 29/09/2013 17:05

I'm abroad so don't have Lovefilm.

Will pop it on my xmas list.

I have Sopranos. Love it. Really didn't enjoy the Wire though.
