I haven't posted on the other thread because there are spoilers.

Looking for a new boxed set to get stuck into with dh this winter. Would we like Breaking Bad? We absolutely loved The Sopranos, and I adore Mad Men, although dh is not keen.

It is BRILLIANT

I haven't watched The Sopranos yet, just somehow missed that boat! Have seen a bit of Mad Men and liked it a lot.

BB is pretty gruesome at times - very gory so be warned - but that doesn't take up the majority of the screen time. You find yourself rooting for the characters even though they're doing a bad thing. some very dark humour too.

Watch the first two episodes, then you'll know if you want to carry on.

BB is brilliant! We are hooked! I didnt like the sopranos or mad men but do love walking dead, sons of anarchy & prison break. Its nowhere near as gruesome/graphic as sons of anarchy and quite humerous too (Im also a science geek so loved the early series).

Give it a try and see if it pulls you in. Typing on phone with cat sat on my hand so apologies for lack of capital letters in those names!

You will love it. It is amazing. Absolutely amazing. Totally original and wonderfully written. And Jessie is hot too. A bonus!

Also try orange is the new black.

Both are available on Netflix. Well worth the monthly fee alone!

GatoradeMeBitch · 22/09/2013 23:43

Netflix I agree would be cheaper than buying the boxset - plus I'm not sure if the final season will be out for Christmas?

I don't think I've ever loved a show so much, I'm so upset that it's ending! The cast are wonderful all the way through, the writing is wonderful, and they manage to mix a surprising amount of humour in with the grimness. I don't think the show is too gory. There was one particular death scene that shocked me but it was so well done I couldn't look away - you'll know it when you see it!

Exceptional television. Quite exceptional.

Some people have been a bit "meh" about Season 1 (although it gripped me right from the start), so if you find this, please hang on in there because it gets about a trillion times better.

I would also recommend Netflix. First month free then only £5.99 after that. It has every BB episode on there - then when you're done with that, there some other amazing stuff too that we can recommend.

Cybercat · 23/09/2013 06:31

Alanna what else would you recommend? BB only has 2 episodes left and Walking Dead doesn't restart until October. Couldn't get into Orange is the New Black.

Fairylea · 23/09/2013 08:17

House of cards
Weeds
Sons of anarchy
Whole of downton abbey is on there

Loads of films obviously on Netflix too!

AlannaPartridge · 23/09/2013 08:35

Well - Orange Is The New Black was my top pick :) but as well as the ones Fairylea mentioned there's Dexter..... the first four seasons are outstanding, definitely worth a watch.

There's also Damages, The Killing, Modern Family (absolutely brilliant if you haven't seen it), Arrested Development as well as some vintage stuff like Cracker & Prime Suspect which I've enjoyed going back to.

Also, can I recommend a film on there that few people have heard of but which is absolutely brilliant - and you'll all LOVE me for recommending Wink. It's called A Royal Affair and was, I think, Mark Kermode's Film of the Year last year. I watched it three times in a row...it's that good.

Fairylea · 23/09/2013 08:38

Oh yes dexter and the killing!

GatoradeMeBitch · 23/09/2013 09:21

I've been watching Inspector Morse, not the spiciest recommendation I suppose Grin

I will definitely look up A Royal Affair Alanna. I'll look up Mark Kermode too!

AlannaPartridge · 23/09/2013 09:43

I'll look up Mark Kermode too!

Top, top film reviewer.
