Eastenders? Max/phil/Carl/Ian?

Can anyone explain what has happened? I have gathered that Carl had tried to kill phil (for some reason), max has been blamed and in jail and Ian has blamed Max? Can anyone explain better

Basically Carl is just trying to screw over Max.

Carl and Phil were in a car on the way to do some deal or other. Carl had tampered with the car and deliberately caused an accident in which Phil was badly hurt.

He has exerted pressure on Ian to testify that Ian had seen Max tamper with the car. Ian saw no such thing but was desperate to get out of the debt he owes Carl.

Meanwhile max is locked up, which has been Carl's plan all along.

How does Ian owe him money? So predictable for EE.

It's all a bit vague but basically Ian found money belonging to Derek Branning and used it to open the restaurant. Somehow Carl got wind of this and made out to Ian that the money was his and that therefore Ian owes Carl.
