When does Breaking Bad get good?

Just started watching Breaking Bad and finding it ok but not sure what all the hype is about - when does it get good, as in REALLY good?

Stick with it! How far in are you? TBH most of season 1 is setting up the characters and the storyline. Season 2 is like going from 1st gear to 5th gear. It's amazing. Enjoy the funny madcap stuff in Season 1 - it gets waaaaaay darker from Season 2 onwards.

I have watch the first three episodes of season 1. It is ok, but I am not blown away!

I didn't start REALLY enjoying it until season 4, to be honest. If I'd been watching it week by week, I would've given up long ago - as it is we watched it late, and have only just caught up with the current airing, so it was easy to power through. It's good to get the references everyone else seems to be talking about though!

First episode, that's when it gets good. Then it just gets better and better.

Will stick with it!

I've loved the whole thing. I'd give up now if I was you, seems it's not for you.

I enjoyed the first few episodes but did wonder if the programme was living up to its reputation. Now on Season 3 (watching a few episodes every evening via Netflix). I would say it just gets more and more absorbing and for me, it seemed to take off in the second season. Definitely don't give up yet!

Season 1 I liked.

But gave up half way through season 2, as they completely lose the humourand Walt turns into an arsehole drugdealer for real.

It is not just "dark" it is very nasty IMO

I'd say humour is a vital ingredient of the programme and I don't see any loss of it as the story gets progressively darker. Saul Goodman is priceless and is only introduced late in Season 2. Hank's character is very well rounded and he can be just as funny as he is serious. There's an element of humour to many of the characters and situations - without it, I don't think the programme would work.

It gets good in the first episode for me, too... But I've quite a bit of it left to watch so who knows. I can't really imagine it going downhill though. It seems too confident and well done for that.

I am up to US pace of the current season (naughty website that streams episodes a couple of days after they get it on TV) and it's OUTSTANDING!!

I will agree that during the first season (having been recommended it by so many people) I was bemused as to what all the fuss was about but, having been told to stick with it, I did and I am so glad. The character development is astounding - no, it's not all good, they don't all become perfect people BUT they react to the things that happen both TO them and AROUND them as a consequence both of their own actions and the actions of others. It's sort of a lesson in the 'pond ripples' quote.

I will be a bit lost when it finishes, having invested so much emotion into it.

Also, Jesse is just LUSCIOUS! ;)

Yeah, I think I might be developing a tiny little crush on Jesse too
