they just had Pearl Lowe smugly telling us that she doesn't like 'disposable culture' and then showing us the caravan a friend gave her for free! Another friend gave her a sofa, another gave her some fabric and another friend then upholstered the sofa for her! All for free! How lovely to be Pearl Lowe..

I watched one and it was awful - 'We scoured the whole of the UK and gathered together this ramshackle assortment of furniture; now, pop into and find an even crapper assortment'.

I can't watch it, we call it "fill you house with a skip".
I am convinced it is cheaper to go to B and Q and get something clean and new rather than pay for all the travel and time involved in that program.

This thread is basically the exact conversation my husband and I have had whilst watching this terrible/fascinating programme.

I wouldn't object so much if she stopped describing it all as "completely free" - when you factor in fuel and van hire, fittings and trimmings, labour, and the fact that we don't all have friends giving away caravan/massive velvet sofas (PEARL LOWE), you may as well just buy new stuff you actually like!

Disclaimer: I actually do a lot of "upcycling" (ugh) and practically everything in my house is second-hand, but Kirsty is making me cross.

I know I'm late, but w.t.f. with that lady valuing all the items - several hundred for 2 pine bedside tables painted pink, and £90 total for the "G & Z" letters - are they mad??

Of course everybody has access to craftspeople who will do the adaptions for free too. And a local DIY place that will donate the paints/tools etc for free too.

What I was most [shocked] about though was the looks on the couple's faces when Kirsty revealed their home maker - it was like Vintage Changing Rooms - he just looked sick as a dog, she kept bursting into tears and I'm not sure if it was with joy.

Pearl Lowe was a failed indy/Brit pop band member who found fame instead via the men she slept with and had babieswith them. She then managed to present her daughter with the news that her Godfather Gavin Bush was actually her Father instead in the full glare of publicity. PL shovelled copious quantities of heroin into herself (which I do not judge her for) but what I do think is morally questionable is her then making a living via confessionals/books/interviews about said abuse and the awful situation over her daughter finding out who her father was and her self confessed neglect of her children.

PL dyed a few second hand net lace curtains with cheap shocking pink dye and made her 'name' because rock star wives/celebrities with no taste started buying them through The Cross. This somehow makes her 'an expert' on vintage style although her recent book came out about eight years too late to capitalise on the market for tat vintage goods.
