I've just started watching. Totally hooked already. However - something that's been niggling slightly. I have seen a couple of comments online about how people who are starting to watch it now should make sure they get the "original" series 1 because it has the proper music?

Confused I can't find anything by googling, is it one of those copyright edits they made for DVD? I have season 1 on DVD and it doesn't say on the box anywhere that music has been edited or changed. When I've noticed this in the past it has been stated in small print on the box somewhere.

I neeeed to know, the music is good anyway, but if it could be BETTER then I want to know so I can get the proper version!

I have the original DVD releases and watched them all from the first time they were on TV and also have the new Blu-rays now and I think they're all the same so don't think it's like Dawson's Creek or some of the CSIs where they actually changed the music?
Not 100% sure though, maybe it was the American releases? - I know with Dawson's Creek the original DVD releases in Europe had the original music on but the US DVDs had slightly different music due to copyright problems. Then one lot of re-releases had the 'new' music on all of them worldwide. I think they did the same with Charmed too.
Sorry can't answer your question but I haven't noticed any differences on the ones I've watched in different formats.

Though a quick google brought up this...

Looks like it's a problem with Netflix rather than DVDs/Blurays?

milewalker · 15/07/2013 22:44

I was just going to say that Netflix have changed the music. I think its to do with copyrights and payments to the artists.

ShowOfHands · 15/07/2013 22:47

Yes, yes, music, music blah blah.

Sam or Dean?

ShowOfHands · 15/07/2013 22:50

Seriously though, I'm jealous that you're seeing them for the first time. You've got so many to watch and it's brilliant. I've watched from the beginning and know that soon it'll end and that's a terrible, terrible thing.

You can have Sam AND Dean btw. I'll have Castiel. You won't have met him yet. Series 4 he appears. Series 4 is magnificent.

YoniBottsBumgina · 15/07/2013 23:02

Dean, obviously. I mean, Sam is prettier, and seems sort of more sensible and reasonable and nicer, but Dean is just....

I just finished Fringe. That was bad enough ending and it was only 5 series. Supernatural has 8 so far? Should keep me going for a while, but I can tell I will be all bereft again at the end.

Glad to know it's not affecting DVD releases. I will stick to my lovely shiny brand new discs!

Damnit you're all making me want to watch one before I go to bed. And we all know what happens when you try to watch one. :(

has to be dean, though if he's busy my second choice would now be benny. he's new to season 8 (apart from a brief encounter earlier on) i'm looking forward to his story.

ShowOfHands · 16/07/2013 14:32

I've seen s8. I know Benny's story.

I like Balthazar too. Even Crowley if pushed.

Dean beats Sam every time.

HighBrows · 16/07/2013 17:48

Balthazar is delicious. Dean is delicious. Sam looks like my sisters female friend Grin. I'm not saying she's butch and I'm not saying he's feminine but they are the image of each other

I'm half way through season 8.

itsallshitandmoreshit · 16/07/2013 17:51

Dean for me, although a Sam/Dean sandwich doesn't sound unreasonable. I'm also jealous of those who are starting from the beginning. For me the first 4 seasons were the best.

Heiderose · 16/07/2013 21:18

I shall just nod along to everything itsallshitandmoreshit said above. Also Castiel, that stare makes my knees go weak.
I follow Misha Collins who plays him on twitter and he's just so damn cute and funny.

ShowOfHands · 16/07/2013 23:22

Misha Collins is a gift to humanity. Castiel's stare, well, um, yes. If he growled at me about gripping me tight and raising me from perdition, I'd be begging for a replay. Of the tight gripping. Not the perdition.

Season 4 is still my favourite but 1-3 are superb.

Badgerwife · 17/07/2013 09:00

What strikes me the most these days when I do a rewatch (I own all of the dvds apart from 8 which I haven't seen yet) is how young they look at the beginning!

Most of the male characters are a treat to the eye, which is only fair, seeing as they only seem to employ models for the female roles. Dean is by far my favourite (I literally feel a bit funny when I watch him) but I wouldn't spit at John Winchester, Crowley or even Chuck. Not Sam Winchester though, and I couldn't tell you why, he just doesn't do it for me (nice body though)

YoniBottsBumgina · 17/07/2013 09:56

Haha, I did think when they were running around with the college kids that there's no way they look college aged. They both look at least 25 in the first series. Just looked up their ages and Sam was 22 in 2005, Dean 27, so that's about right.

SlatternismyMiddlename · 18/07/2013 11:02

Dean, always Dean.

ShowOfHands · 18/07/2013 18:25

They do look young don't they?

I think Dean somehow manages to be a bit more interesting than Sam regardless of what they throw at them. His struggles seem to be well drawn. Sam just seems to whine and gurn and emote too much. And his bloody hair annoys me. I like a man with long hair but there are times when you just know he's gazing into the middle distance thinking about product.

SomebodyBrokeThat · 22/07/2013 00:47

~~ Reply to spoilers, look away ~~

I liked soulless Sam too, he was funny...and naughty and so much less angsty. God, that doesn't even make sense. It was good to see Sam getting some for a change though. Did you see the beginning of 'The Third Man (S6 ep3), even if you're not a Sam fan you've got to admit he looked hot hot hot. Blush

I have to admit I like the episodes that are a bit more tongue in cheek. But just to keep the thread on track, hell I'd do any of them, Sam, Dean, Cas, but I'd have to draw the line at Bobby.

helloella · 22/07/2013 03:13

Oh a Supernatural thread!

Keep a watch on Dean's personality. It just gets worn more and more down as the series' go onHmm

However Dean is beautiful. There is nothing at all wrong with that mans face. Moose looks like a girl.
