Am I using Netflix wrong?

I'm watching 24 from the beginning and that's fine. However, I read an article saying that Netflix has a back catalogue of over 100 tv dramas. How do I find them? All I get is the different categories and that swipey thing which shows about eight different shows in a row. Is that how it works? How do I see the rest of them if there's over a hundred?

Yes, you should be able to scroll to the right on each category. My TV displays 75 programmed in each genre.

How are you viewing though? If it's on a tablet or PC, then your version may be different.

It's on my iPad, I must be doing something wrong. I just can't work out what.

Hi. In the top left corner should be a tab called browse. If you click on that then tv programmes you should see all of them. Hope this helps. Smile

The iPad app doesn't really let you discover things. It scrolls horizontally but normally only through 15 shows. You can search in the top right hand corner but that's only good if you know what you are looking for. It does have a raft of shows but it's hard to find them!

If they cracked the library issue the service would be almost perfect.

In fact if they could link IMDB and Netflix I would be tempted to stay inside forever. Grin

I only watch shows on my iPad though. That was the point of me getting it. I even made sure it was the American version as it has three times as many shows. My memory is shot to pieces so I can't search. I just need a long list!

US version of Netflix has 10 times more content. Easy to hack to make it think you are stateside..... Google it!

zgaze · 16/06/2013 20:32

Netflix is awesome if you use it in vonjubcti

Lighthousekeeping · 16/06/2013 20:33

I've done that which is why I'm so gutted! The iPad just does t let you see the full version, you get about eight shows in each category.

Oh whoops fat fingers and iPhone... Meant to say use it in conjunction with unblock-us.com - it's really easy and unlocks the content for US / Canada / Mexico / Brazil Netflix regions.

Lighthousekeeping · 16/06/2013 20:35

I've unblocked it

Oh and there's a few blogs / websites / Facebook groups which highlight new releases or recommend content - I tend to browse those then search for them on Netflix. I agree the search / browse function on the actual program is weak particularly on iPad. The Internet is full of people complaining about it!

BrianButterfield · 16/06/2013 20:47

I agree with zgaze - also once you've watched a few things that are 'you', you'll get better recommendations.

HolidayArmadillo · 16/06/2013 20:55

Why did I not know about American Netflix?! I need some of this in my life. Only thing is I'm currently watching Dr Who and I suspect US NETFLIX doesn't have it. Does it have The West Wing?

Lighthousekeeping · 16/06/2013 21:04

I've searched in vain for Greys Anatomy. I know it has it I've seen people talking about it. The search engine gives me nothing. Should I take the app off and just use Netlix on google?

OP posts:
HolidayArmadillo · 16/06/2013 21:37

I now have US Netflix but it's saying the titles aren't available for instant viewing. Any of them. So I can see what is on offer I just can't watch any of them!

zgaze · 16/06/2013 21:37

Just checked and Greys is definitely on the US Netflix. How have you unblocked it, with unblock-us? If so - make sure you have definitely selected the right region on their website, then fully close down and reopen the Netflix app. It will take a second or two longer to open than normal as it readjusts to the new region and you should get a pop up saying something like 'Travelling with Netflix?'.

zgaze · 16/06/2013 21:40

Holidayarmadillo....are you using a VPN blocker like unblock-us.com or just browsing the US Netflix website? You have to disguise the fact you're in the UK before it will work.

candycrushhater · 16/06/2013 21:41

Holidayarmadillo - yes, US Netflix has The West Wing on it. I'm onto series 3. I think this is the fourth time we've watched it Grin.

HolidayArmadillo · 16/06/2013 21:49

I have signed up to the free trial of unblock-us,I changed my dns wotsits and then switched the iPad off and on again. This then turned my normal Netflix app into showing what I presume is the US content as I can see shows that never used to be there but when I click on them they say it is not available for instant viewing.

When you say right region in their website, what do you mean? I haven't received an email or anything from them either, should I have done?

zgaze · 16/06/2013 22:00

Hmmm Im not sure then. I can just click on anything and it plays, but I do pay the monthly subscription. Is the month trial limited maybe? If you go to the unblock-us website home page you can just choose the region you want, and it'll update it so the next time you open the Netflix app it's changed. I think there's a customer support forum, might be worth checking on there.

HolidayArmadillo · 16/06/2013 22:04

I've fixed it!! I don't know what I did other than muttering obscenities at it under my breath but it worked. I'm watching episode one of TWW now. You have no idea how happy ll of this makes me.

zgaze · 16/06/2013 22:11

It's awesome isn't it. There's so much on there! Randomly the Brazil & Mexico ones have loads of the big Pixar films that aren't on the others, and it's also worth checking the Canada one - we're working our way through a series called Community on there which is hilarious.

BrianButterfield · 16/06/2013 22:16

We're doing the West Wing too! If any of you with US Netflix have a DS who loves Cars, there's something called Mater's Tall Tales on there which DS is obsessed with and is actually watchable and quite funny.
