If I love Game of Thrones on TV are the books readable?

I read a lot of fiction but never fantasy stuff. Are the books easy to read? Well written? Have a couple of beach holidays coming up.

They are very readable. And fantastic!

Very readable, although I found book 4 hard going as it focuses on characters I was less interested in. Conversely I preferred book 5 (the latest) as it focused on the characters I like. I just added that in case you felt like giving up during one of the last 2 books, unfortunately you need to read both to get the full picture

Loved them. I have read the first two so far, after watching the series.

Reading book one particularly, was like reliving the scenes...they are very close.

The first book was vaguely ok and showed promise, but I think they went downhill not too long after that (look up reviews for the later books).

It depends, however. I'd describe them as Jackie Collins books but with dragons, goblins and the like thrown into the mix.

Easy? Yes, but that rather depends on you. My and my DP romped through them all in a summer after watching season 1. What some people see as 'waffle' I enjoy for scene-setting, getting a better idea of life in Westeros (and Essos) and character development. If every chapter contained a Red Wedding we'd soon get bored.

Dany's story is frustrating, but actually I think that may be his point. World domination, even with dragons, is not straightforward.

I loved being absorbed in GRRM's world for so long, and look forward to book 6...
