MmeL - I do understand why you feel as you do.

My view is that the majority of the contestants (there are some exceptions) know exactly what may or may not happen when they get on the stage - even if they think they have talent, they're still taking a calculated risk. And they know that. The young lad certainly would have known it - there are more obviously vulnerable contestants where that's clearly not the case.
