Beautiful People -anyone remember this?

IIRC there was only one series. Set in the 1980s in Reading.
The main character was looking back at his teen years (they'd escaped Reading to go to LA to live with the Beautiful People)

I think it was 2 series, it was actually set in the 1990's - they were based on an autobiography of Simon Doonan (?- don't remember his name for definite but he is an English window dresser who works at Barney's in New York). Meera Stal was in it and I believe Olivia Coleman too. It was on BBC2 and I loved it- it's on my Amazon wish list !!

Meant to say autobiography was earlier, they moved his recollections forward to the ninetied
