it does piss me off how many adaptions we need of one story though, i think there must be about 2100 versions of this now.

bbc is dull on sunday nights, though i appreciate i am probably alone in my hatred of it

TunipTheVegedude · 17/03/2013 20:49

LOL just what I was thinking!
I want to go swimming in a lake then swan around in a silk sheath dress in the evenings and smoke.

out2lunch · 17/03/2013 20:50

i haven't seen it before

and we would definitely be the young women in silk, yes, not the middle aged ones in tweeds.

It's not grabbing me. Possibly off to bed with my book now..

jird · 17/03/2013 21:07

tcm showed the cybil shepherd film earlier today, can't really beat that version

bbc is dull on sundays these days...

TunipTheVegedude · 17/03/2013 21:12

Just read a review and it seems they went back to the book the Hitchcock film was based on, rather than remaking the film itself.
I'm quite enjoying it personally.

out2lunch · 17/03/2013 21:16

yeah me too

OP posts:
Oodsigma · 17/03/2013 21:16

I'm enjoying it.

MissMogwi · 17/03/2013 21:21

I can't get in to it, the main character is annoying me. I usually love a period drama/thriller too.

diddl · 17/03/2013 21:29

I loathed the Cybill Shepard one!

jird · 17/03/2013 21:34

wish the bbc would be a little more adventurous on sunday night - it's really the same old middle class shite all the time

Ambridge · 17/03/2013 21:39

I've just switched across and realised that the Baroness is Hanne Holm from 'Borgen'...

diddl · 17/03/2013 21:44

Oh yes, that's who it is!

notactuallyme · 17/03/2013 21:48

Just don't care enough - I love hitchcock usually. Doesn't frau whatsit look exactly the same as the english one?

out2lunch · 17/03/2013 21:53

stephanie cole is great
so is keeley - perhaps she should have had the lead role

OP posts:
diddl · 17/03/2013 21:59

That was absolutely tedious!

That guy was also in Dancing on the Edge, wasn't he?

LittleAbruzzenBear · 17/03/2013 22:12

Lovely clothes, but it didn't do it for me. I love the 1938 black and white film with Margaret Lockwood.

teejwood · 17/03/2013 22:17

diddl yes it was the guy from DOTE.

Can someone please explain to me exactly how after decades of feminism we had an Iris who was a complete hysterical drip, who needed to be rescued by a man.

FFS Margaret Lockwood in the 1938 film had more backbone and was a much stronger character - and I give not a tiny shite if this one is supposed to be closer to the original story, Hitchcock's script was better.

Even the Cybil Shepherd version was better than that tedium.

And the thing that upsets me most of all is that I love so many of the actors and actresses appearing in it.
AGHHHHHH!!!!

BBC THAT WAS SHITE IMHO.

Angry
NoelHeadbands · 17/03/2013 22:28

I'm watching it now as we recorded it.

Have to say I'm loving the hair, the dresses but most of all, the smoking. All that lovely smokey smoking cigarettes.

I don't smoke btw, filthy habit but my god it looks glam

LittleAbruzzenBear · 18/03/2013 07:05

teej, I agree, yes Iris was extremely annoying in this version.

Chandon · 18/03/2013 07:14

Just saw 5 minutes of it, ot looked rubbish.

Also, why do a remake if there is an outstandingly fab original, a passable remake with Cybil S. Already, unless you do something completely new with it ( like the Benedict Cumberbatch version of Sherlock).

Just lazy and pointless TV

LittleAbruzzenBear · 18/03/2013 07:26

It's such a waste, good actors, beautiful clothes....agree, they could have been more bold.
