Anyone else watch the royal episode? Wanted to like but sadly did end with me feeling Charles is arrogant and people around him were just so sychophantic. I suppose some interesting issues explored but some of it same old same old that we've hear dhim piping on about - hedgerows for example.

Am I being negative? Wanted to like - ashamed royal watcher and enjoy countryfile but it did not do it for me. Perhaps, I expected a larger insight into his working farm and country pursuits. Sure I'm being moany and going on.

What did you think?

I did enjoy seeing his farm - particularly loved his rare breed cattle and delighted he has some Tamworths! I'm used to him being a bit preachy - that is probably his role in life. At least he has some convictions and does something about them.

By the way I love the presenting team on Country File at the moment! Such enthusiasm for their subject...

Yes, it is true the rare breeds were interesting as were the plights of the fell farmers -quite an eye opener really into the hardships of some farmers.

What did you find arrogant about it zamantha? I'm not really sure of the point of the programme, but did find it quite interesting. UK farming is deep in the mire atm and I think so few people are aware of the desperate situation many farmers are in. If having HRH helps raise people's awareness then fine, but I wish it had been more hard hitting - facts on screen about suicide, poor income, diseases etc - there was too much pretty music and green fields. The reality of it is so far away from this for so many people.

We are mostly well aware of the hardship suffered in industrial areas, and I get the feeling a lot of people think the countryside is a pretty place to visit, therefore all must be well. (I'll get off my soapbox now!)

I agree it was sycophantic.

But if PoW really did have editorial choice, I think he did really well in the social issues he chose to raise (especially food production in a inner city school and the support network for isolated farmers).

And it's all too easy to overlook the work that the Prince's charities do - much of it unsung.

Yes, the issues he raises are laudable and for that I give him time/air space but there is this sense that he expects people to defer to him and that his views are precious and it grates actually. I think he should be/sound mor ehumble in such a privileged position.
I do actually believe, despite his position, he does have many important issues to raise. The whole HRH thing though is strange and seemingly self-indulgent.

I was a bit that his farm manager left a cow in labour for a WEEK before they intervened.
